Tambour Door kit
Kit went together very well following instructions. Instructions should include the minimum clearance above the center line of the roller to allow placing it as high as possible in the cabinet.

Space-saving countertop breadbox
An 18" wide countertop next to our stove had an upper cupboard. We needed space to set a hot pot on the counter & also needed a breadbox. A conventional cupboard door would need so much clearance to open that the countertop would be unusable. We framed in the back half of the counter, trimmed the uncabled edge of the tambour and horizontal frame pieces, blocked the corners for strength, and voila! a breadbox that perfectly matches our cabinets, but leaves ample space to set down that large canning pot on the counter. 5 years later, it still works like a charm. Ordering another one for different location in the kitchen where adjacent swinging door interferes with cabinet door opening. These are great space-savers at less than the price of a similarly-sized cupboard door.

Perfect for my needs
I had a small cabinet in my RV which originally was used for housing a 13" TV. After purchasing a new, wall-mount HD TV, I purchased and installed the Tambour Door Kit in the small cabinet opening with just a couple of pieces of 1" x 2" oak trim (sized to fit). After applying a golden oak finish to my trim pieces and installing, the door fit perfectly, looks beautiful and provides a nice, enclosed storage area.

Used on the bottom of a tower to go in our bathroom. It allowed closed storage on the counter top without the hassels of doors. Went in very well, and works great.

I used this kit in constructing a small storage unit for our motorhome. It nicely fits in with the decor of the unit. I'm very pleased with it's looks, and how smooth it operates.

Remodeling our master bath, and creating a small built-in between 2 large medicine cabinets for hair dryer, curling iron, etc. No space for another swinging door, so this was the perfect solution.

We recently purchased a home that has a small (approx 13"x18") wood tambor type door but, when we roll it up, it doesn't stop and sometimes becomes "un-rolled" there some kind of "stop" that can be installed to solve this problem? Thanks!! Frank
Frank C on Jun 4, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Usually there is a spring that is wrapped around the upper dowel and attaches to the tambour.
this could have broken or become loose over time
I would like to replace the tambor doors in my 1973 vintage airstream can you provide a kit to accomplish this?

I need a replacement for our current appliance garage it is red oak but it is 18"W x 18"H can we get this with the track?
Melissa D on Apr 4, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Melissa, sorry but the door kit is only 15" wide, (Use on cabinets with maximum openings of 14-9/16" W x 17-1/2" H.)
will the door slide right to left or does it have to mounted to lift vertical?? and will it curve
Bill S on Apr 5, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Actually I haven't mounted this door yet. However, judging from the instructions, and the rolling door we have in our appliance garage, it may work horizontally, but I think it's best application is vertical.
i have dark cabinets with would stain better to match. I think I have walnut?

red oak or maple
steve r on Dec 7, 2017
BEST ANSWER: If you are asking if the wood is stainable, it is. I colored mine for the console in a 57 Olds street rod, to go with chocolate brown upholstery. Staining is an art frustrates more than rewards, so good Luck, and be tolerant of wood variance.
Can it be cut to fit a 14 inch opening?
Whitney F on Jul 10, 2018
BEST ANSWER: We cut our tambour door to fit. Run tape on the top sides of the slats. Cut equal amounts off each side using an 80 tooth table saw blade. Remove tape and sand edges very lightly, if required.
Is the track oak or is it plastic/pvc?
JOHN V on Mar 4, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Hi John the track is plastic/pvc and can be cut to length.
I assume these are unfinished? Specifically interested in the maple, but others may have the same question about the oak.
Tom F on Jan 30, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I bought an oak tambour door kit for my trailer and it was unfinished - two light coasts of wiped on golden oak stain/sealer and it came out beautiful. Bob S.

I have a cabinet opening that is 16 3/8 wide by 10 3/4 high.. I can build in the width to make it fit that way.. but can the door be shortened? or will it still work with just shortening the tracks?
A shopper on Aug 20, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Hi, yes you can cut the door both width and height, but not just the track. Follow the instructions and you should be fine.
old door is 25 and 1/4in AND i hAVE NEW DOOR AND IT IS ONLY 25" -HOW CAN i MAKE IT WORK

nancy l on Sep 1, 2019
BEST ANSWER: I would add 1/4" to the opening of the cabinet making the cabinet opening 25"

You might add 1/8" on each side to keep it centered or go to 1/4" on each side to allow for 1/4" leeway..
Is this kit paintable so that I can match my white cabinets?
Brian R on Apr 2, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes. You may want to paint the door before installing as the areas between the individual strips of wood need attention. Drape the door over a 3" Dia. or larger section of PVC pipe or similar to open up the gaps between the strips to allow you to get the brush in between the strips. Painting before will also allow you to paint the areas on the sides of the door easily as they will be difficult to address when installed being buried in the tracks.
what if the opening is >15 inches. I think it is closer to 20"...will this product work?
Annette B on Mar 21, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Then you would need spacers to bring the opening down to size. I actually used my door for a small "built in" in between medicine cabinets for my wife's hair dryer and curler. I needed to design the space to fit the door. You can trim the door down for a smaller space, but can't fit it into a larger space without gaps.
Is this unit available with 1/2 inch slats?
A shopper on Apr 27, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Sorry no, the slats on these are 1/4" thick and 3/4" wide.
which way do i wind the spring to get the door to go up and down correctly ?

BEST ANSWER: opposite the direction of the pull
Is there any other structure that's necessary to make the door roll and shut? I'm looking to install this in my converted school bus, above my existing cabinets, but I don't want to build a cabinet. I just want to enclose the area directly with the tambour doors. The runner would be attached to either the top of the cabinet below or the ceiling of the bus.
Mary F on Dec 8, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes. You need a wood piece the length and width x 3/4 on the outer runners.
Would like to have one of these doors for a cabinet in my bathroom the opening is 2 foot by 4 foot ?
Robin M on Jul 17, 2018

BEST ANSWER: U can make, one using a PC of canvas
hey so i need a side tambour that bends for a corner shelf. do u guys do those?
surge k on Mar 11, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Assuming that you mean to operate the tambour from side to side the only real problems are having the spring tending to keep the door from staying closed and the angle. I installed the kit in a car to cover the console and didn't use the spring for the same reason, and it works fine. Your real challenge is naturally the angle. I would cut the side edges and fab radiused matching pieces to connect the two side pieces on each side out of whatever material your are comfortable with.
We have golden oak cabinets and need a new appliance garage. Is the red oak made to go with the golden oak? I cannot find golden oak online anywhere. How do measure for the correct dimensions?
Donna B on Mar 6, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I, too, have golden oak cabinets. I was able to stain the red oak tambour door and match my cabinets exactly; grain and all! Measuring information can be found on the website and included with the kit, but you can always call customer service and they will instruct you over the telephone.
Have a "built-out" wall to cover wall-mounted A/C ducts and want to build-in cabinet below ducts (cross at waist height). Depth is shallow, maybe 6" with studs and drywall; and width is 14-16". Height is more flexible since crossing ducts take up only about 6" of 84" floor to ceiling height. Want 1/4" tambour slat doors to slide from both sides to meet in center. Can you please tell how your kit can be adapted to this application?
Grandpa Phil on Jan 17, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I am assuming these will work in a horizontal application. That is based on the mounting hardware. My application worked perfectly and the lady I did this for has not had any problems to my knowledge.
