Triton TCMBS Palm Belt Sander

A compact, lightweight belt sander that fits in the palm of the hand!
Item #
57819
Rating:
72% of 100

Belt sanders are staple power tools because of their power and aggressive sanding capability, but who hasn't found themselves wishing for one that wasn't so heavy? Look no further than the Triton Palm Belt Sander. It offers the aggressive sanding of its bigger brothers, but in a package that you can easily wield with one hand. The housing has a rounded spine for one-handed use, and also provides enough space to use both hands if desired. It's ideal for overhead work, sanding in tight spaces, or for sanding while on a ladder. With a belt that extends flush with the side, it lets you sand right up against a wall, and the small diameter front roller allows sanding close to walls at the front end as well. Accepts compact 2-1/2'' x 16'' belts that are easily changed with the quick-release belt lever.

Features:
  • Efficient 450W motor makes light work of common sanding applications
  • Flush side for sanding up to the edge of the workpiece
  • Small diameter front roller allows sanding in confined areas
  • Belt tracking adjustment allows the sanding belt to be recentered
  • Rubber over-molded grip increases control and safety
  • Lock-on switch can be locked on to reduce user fatigue
  • Dust extraction for a cleaner, safer working environment

Solid performer! Excellent value for the money.
This is an excellent sander for those times you need a belt sander but don’t want to pull out the big boys or working in an area where the big ones won’t fit. The Triton puts out a considerable amount of dust so a vacuum hose is definitely needed. It has one speed which is adequate for my sanding. I would not use this sander to finish a large area but it really isn’t designed for that use. I am right handed which means that I can’t see the belt when holding the sander since the open side showing the belt is facing away from me. You can sand flush to an edge but I have to hold the sander upside down in my right hand to accomplish that. This is more of an inconvenience as far as I am concerned but it may not bother other folks. The belt tracks well and responds quickly when making adjustments. The sander has approximately 2 inches X4 inches for the belt platen. As long as you hold that section over the target area the Triton performs very well. Overall I am pleased with it. There is nothing else in my woodworking tool collection that comes close to doing the specific tasks I use this sander for.

This is a great tool. The belts are hard to find, but being able to hold this in your palm is amazing in certain circumstances.

good detail tool
This small belt sander is very good for fine detail, edge shaping, and scribing. It has good balance and weight. The off/on switch is well placed, the tool fits well in your hand, and it is very easy to control. It has a very solid, comfortable feel.

I need to sand my garage floor. What should I use?
Erma B on Aug 9, 2015
BEST ANSWER: This is a small tool that is designed for edge detail and sanding small areas of wood for a perfect fit. It is not designed to do large areas or hard surfaces such as concrete. It is well built and replaces another small sander made by Black and Decker called a Sand Cat. The Sand Cat was not as well built, balanced, or as easy to control as the Triton. For a garage floor you should check out a local tool rental company. A sander that is capable of that type of project will cost thousands to purchase and anything less will be labor intensive, probably fail during the job, and leave poor results. Floor sanding takes skill and there are risks, you may want to hire this done. Most garage floors are concrete. If your garage floor is wood the fasteners are probably metal, even if you can't see them. Metal and motor oil soaked wood will be a problem for any sander. Jerry
How readily available are replacement belts?
Gene on Jan 23, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Rockler stores or on-line always have a wide variety of belts. I only buy from Rockler to ensure good fit and great products.
Where can I get extra belts for the sander? Can I use off the shelf, do them myself??
A shopper on May 27, 2015
BEST ANSWER: We offer them on Rocklers website under the item #51831. It is a 3 pack including 80, 100 and 120 grit
