Beautiful smooth finish that doesn't stink.
I've been using this Poly Whey finish on the kitchen cabinets that I've been building. It sprays quite well. I first applied a "natural" stain to get the grain to pop and then sprayed 3 coats of Poly Whey onto the cabinets. I used an 800 grit sanding pad that I purchased for making pens (Turning Finishing Kit #45332) between coats and a 1000 grit after the final coat for a baby skin smooth finish that doesn't stink or outgas. Any oder I get comes from the stain I used. The cabinets are turning out beautifully. And the can is recyclable.

I was introduced to Vermont by a carpenter. It's put a great sheen on the woodwork in my retail store. Easy to use, quick drying, water clean up. What's not to like?

Great Product
My daughter was very concerned about the 'gassing" of other solvent based finishes. She was expecting her first baby and I built a dresser for granddaughter # 4!!
Having heard about the Poly-Whey, my daughter told me about the new waterborne finish and I bought a quart.
Application and "clean-up" were a snap.
The dresser looks great and I'd use Poly-Whey again!!
The only "downside" is the cost when compared with other finishes.

Unbelievable stuff! I was looking for a "safer" sealant for the wood of our raised garden beds so chemicals wouldn't leach into the soil{and thus into the veggies}and was told about this coating by a major organic farm who uses it on all their raised beds and chicken coops. I used the exterior Poly Whey on the lumber for our garden beds in early 2011, and the wood has now been through two 100+ degree summers, and crazy Texas weather looking like it was treated just yesterday. Also used the indoor version to seal several things, and it works awesome as well. I have a very sensitive sense of smell, but have never noticed any strange odors or "out gasing" as one reviewer said they have, and we find this to be completely odorless when dry. Love Vermont Natural Coatings Poly Whey, and it's worth every penny!

I have been using Vermont Natural Coatings Poly Whey for a few years now and in my opinion it is the best on the market. No odor, Lays down perfectly, Dries very fast with a great finish. Every Farm House table that I sell goes out with Poly Whey on it and my customers love it! It costs a few cents more but it is SO worth it!

Pros: Easy to apply using little more than your garden variety foam brush. More than adequate "open time" allows for quick corrections of the odd drip or run. Dries clear and hard in little over an hour. Recoat in two. As is true of ALL water based finishes, looks best over a sealer coat or two of FRESH DE-WAXED shellac. The shellac helps "pop" the wood figure/grain. Just about the least toxic, most environmentally friendly hard/top coat out there.Cons: I really can't think of any. It does cost a wee bit more, but then again, you get what you pay for.I'm a professional luthier custom classical guitar maker, by the way.

I have to agree this is by far the best clear coat finish I've ever used!!! Dries super quick and NO NOTICEABLE ODOR ! I used this indoors and my wife never noticed any odor at all. This stuff is a miracle. This is my go to clear finish from now on. Simply the best.

I HAVE USED THIS PRODUCE TO FINISH HARDWOOD TRIM THAT I MADE WHEN INSTALLING MY HARD WOOD FLOOR. IT IS A VERY HARD AND DURABLE FINISH.
Does it yellow the wood at all, or does it keep the wood's original color? Thank you!
Roger H on Apr 11, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Very slight yellowing, but less than urethane. Try a sample spot on the underside of your workpiece. This is all that I've used in the past 3 year. I start with 3 coats of Polywhey then up to 6 coats of the Heirloom to harden the surface.
Looking for a safe, durable, sealer to seal painted wooden puzzles for children (age toddlers and up). Has anyone had experience with this product for this type of project?
Lisa L on Aug 17, 2018
BEST ANSWER: We used this product all over our butcher shop and it’s holding up beautifully. Antique doors, ceiling beams etc. Easy to work with and no nasty odors. I used semi gloss but still plenty of sheen. I bought this product from tickler specially because it is an all natural. It was recommended by my carpenter.
I have one more question. Do you need to sand with 800-1000 grit sandpaper! Can you use 220 grit?
benjaminfrank on Jun 7, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I sand with 220 grit after the first and second coats. It's not necessary to Sand with a finer grit. I've been using this product for over 10 years and find it very satisfactory.
How many square feet does one quart-sized can cover? And two coats?
Alicia T on Apr 12, 2016
BEST ANSWER: A qt can covers 100 s.f. The manufacturer recommends 3 coats.
We used the finish on a dark floorbut because of the floor there are white spots on the seams. What can I use to fill these spots in?
Barbara S on Aug 22, 2019
BEST ANSWER: This finish should dry clear, so if there are white spots in the seams I would guess that is uncured finish. Make sure to give it a good week or more before assuming there is some discoloration/issue. Generally I wouldn't advise using something to cover up a defect in another finish as this tends to lead to peeling off the finish and usually looks like a cover-up job.
That being said, I'm really not sure how well this will hold up as a floor finish in the long run. Would be interested to hear how that turns out.
I'm looking to finish a white pine table top with a "weatherwash" stain on it. Will this product be compatible?
Angelo P on Jun 27, 2018

blake s on Apr 14, 2016
BEST ANSWER: My uses have been indoor woodworking in which case it doesn't seem necessary to add another sealer
I have a natural wood table that I would like to protect
From stains, what product do you recommend that is safe and will not change color or cause the table to be shiny?
A shopper on Jun 15, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Paste wax is probably the only finish that will not the color, but must be reapplied often. Shellac would be the next choice, using steel wool to reduce any gloss, but will be affected by alcohol.
