Great fit and finish. Nice, solid build and feel. I like them so well that I now buy them 10 or more pair at a time. I agree about pre-tapping the holes with the steel screws. Because of the design of my box, I have to replace the screws with a shorter length for the lid.

I used this hinge on a small box in red oak. They have a solid feel and operate very smoothly. The hinge is a very high quality and the screws were the correct size and fit. As with all brass screws, make sure that you drill a pilot hole and then drive steel screws in first to cut threads. Then remove the steel screws and seat your brass screws. If you don't, you'll strip or break your brass screws. However, that's normal for these types of screws. The hinges really look great and I'm ordering more of these. They are a little pricey, but I'm still giving them 5 stars for quality, fit, and durability.

The brass piano hinge is a perfect size for small boxes. The quality and finish are both excellent. Also included are appropriately sized screws for hinge installation.

Good quality for price. The only complaint is that there are only the number of screws needed to mount the hinge. A few extra would be nice.
The hinges did what they were designed to do. They enhanced the jewelry boxes made as Christmas presents for all the women in our family. The 26 jewelry boxes had different hinges for each box according to the wood made from and the design of the box.

The hinges are great but brass screws are very weak and break off. It is necessary to first run a steel screw into the wood to pretap the hole before putting the brass screw into the hole

Is each side of the hinge 7/8", or as a whole it is only 7/8" wide?
Matthew on Jan 30, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The whole hinge is 7/8" wide.
What degree opening, e.g. 90, 95.?
Constance C on Dec 17, 2017
BEST ANSWER: 180 degrees..... in other words, the lid to the jewelry box I made opens so that its top is level with the box itself. I don't think I can send a picture here. The screws are soft, so be gentle with them. The hinges look great. Actually, I just checked and the lid opens just past 180, and though it is heavy it rests just fine in that position.
What is the minimum stock thickness I could use this on? I'm planning on building a case and the stock will be approximately 3/8 inch thick.
Mark v on Nov 8, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Hello, and thank you for your question about the Vertex hinge I purchased. I used the hinge on a box with exactly 3/8" thickness at the hinge point. It worked perfectly for my needs. Ralph
Two questions: a) is this mounted inside or outside the box (need hinge for outside mount); and b) are they surface-mounted or will I need to mortise them?
