Woodcarver's Vise
The fact this is an all metal product is very pleasing. It is very sturdy and versatile. It holds the wood very securely when screwed to the round top plate. It is very easy to position the wood just about anyway you desire. It did not come with assembly instructions but it only took a couple minutes to figure out. For me this is a five star product without any doubt.

How is the workpiece held in place in the
Woodcarver's Vise
Item #: 58530 ?
Sat S on Dec 4, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The work piece is held by screws that through the round disc. However next time I use this vise I am going to screw a scrap piece of wood to the disc and then hot glue my work piece to the scrap. I understand from fellow carvers the hot glue works very well in holding the work piece in place. And then you don’t have screw holes in the bottom of your work. I have a couple vises and I rate this one an 8 on a scale of 1 to 10.
Will this vise hold heavier blocks for sculpting?
Joel H on Apr 8, 2019
BEST ANSWER: It depends on what you mean by heavier and how you carve. The heaviest I have used is a carving from western cedar that started at about 12 pounds. I used a chisel and mallet but most of the carving was slicing cuts with little or no mallet blows. The vice slipped a little at times but it worked very well and it was easy to reposition the wood. I hope this helps.
