I have built Many kitchen cabinets and furniture over the decades and this Bulldog router fence will serve me well now retired working on my things .
I’ve been assembling a confined space wood shop after recently getting married. I bought an inexpensive router table that I was unsure of. After mounting the bulldog everything is flat and rigid and easy to adjust.

Frame and hardware are great. Heavy...
Frame and hardware are great. Heavy aluminum feels solid and precise. Assembly takes seconds. But 2 MDF sub-fences are different thickness - 1/8” difference. On fence like this they could install those Rockler aluminum wide t-tracks. I will probably end up doing just that.

Not well designed.
Keep in mind that I have my fence installed on the 100lb Bench Dog router table top that it was designed for.

The dust collection port is completely useless, although that's the nature of the beast. Really need a hood for a router table.

The real beef is that I've had to replace the hardware that holds the fence in place because the OEM hardware is a carriage bolt with a perfectly round shank and spins when you try to tighten it. Both the top and bottom of the guide grooves have no friction. I've wasted enough money on ruined lumber to pay for a couple of replacement fences.

Does not hold up over time
I got this fence as part of the Bench Dog® ProMAX Cast Router Table which is a great piece of equipment.

The fence however has been a huge disappointment. The heavy aluminum frame is solid and precise. The dust collection port also works quite well. Unfortunately the design, materials, and function on the rest of the fence leaves a lot to be desired.

They went cheap on the adjustable portion of the fence and used MDF. After two years of use they are no longer co-planar making them useless as a fence. For the price they should have included some phenolic inserts or something of similar quality that will stand up to regular use.

The hardware that came with mine included some cheap plastic pieces that don't last either. The design on the hardware that secures this to your table comes loose very easy which is not a great thing when your in the middle of a cut.

I have also found the fence to be very low at 3.5 inches. Its ok if your doing work on the edge of a board but if you need to have a piece oriented vertically it doesn't provide enough support. Another note, I would not recommend using the fence directly on a case iron top as it will scratch.

I'm going to try and reuse the aluminum fence and dust collection port in a design of my own the addresses these deficiencies.

OK but not exceptional
I replaced my old router set up with a bench dog cast iron table and lift plate. The old fence would not line up with the slots in the cast iron table so I bought this fence.

I was not impressed with the mdf fence pieces and replaced them with UHMW. I'm also trying to decide how to best deal with the bottom side of the fence. Rather than use UHMW, the bottom is grooved aluminum that makes a terrible screech when it slides on the cast iron, not to mention scratching it. For the price, I think Rockler (Bench Dog) could have come up with a much better fence that would match up with the quality of the lift and table. There are too many problems that were not addressed in the design and testing on this fence.

Not a great fence. The bottom of the fence rubs on the table and since it is aluminum it also leak scratches and black marks. My table is cast iron so I don't really want the aluminum scratching it. Not impressed with the fence.

Is this compatible with the Rockler Router Table Top?
Shaun N on Mar 14, 2016
BEST ANSWER: We applied this bench dog to an assisting table we had. I feel this dog can be used on any top that is wide enough to support the existing wing nut clamp. You may have to create new slide grooves on an existing table.
This product works well and is easy to adjust.
I have an old bench dog cabinet-style router table. The hold downs on that fence have broken finally. Will this fence fit any Bench dog table?

I have a home made router table so I modified this fence to use with an older Inca jig. I can’t do micro adjustments but it’s very accurate and I use it a lot.
Will the melamine fence faces from a 32" Pro router table fence 47905 fit this 27279 fence. The 27279 comes with standard MDF. If so, do you know the part number ? Thanks

BEST ANSWER: Yes it will fit
I am looking for flip stops that will fit this fence. Any ideas? Most fit the top and not the sides. I know i can build my own but I want the precision.
