Split-ring stop collars clamp around drill bits and hold securely in place. When tightened, they clamp over the complete diameter of the drill bit shaft without marring. The set includes collars for 1/8", 3/16", 1/4", 5/16", 3/8", 7/16" and 1/2" size bits. A 3mm (1/9") hex key for adjustments is also included with the set. Select the proper collar diameter, slide it onto the drill bit, and tighten the single 3mm hex screw. The split ring design tightens fully around the drill bit securing it in place. No damage to the drill's side edges or flutes will occur! Stop Collars allow you to set precise cutting depths on any countersink or drill bit with a corresponding diameter.

Drill bit stop set
I like these as they pinch the drill bit rather then rely on a set screw into the side of the bit.

You're going to need pliers, but they work.
I came to look at the reviews _after_ I bought them and got them home - brilliant, huh? - because I couldn't get it to actually grab. I'd tighten it as far as I could by hand, and it'd just slip right off.

But, I saw all the reviews saying you really had to crank them down, so I put the short arm of the hex wrench in place and turned it with some pliers. Eventually, it grabbed.

So, unless your hands are a -lot- stronger than mine, you'll need pliers, and it'll feel like you might break something, but once it grabs, it grabs.

Split Drill Bit Collar Set
Split collars are much better than the standard set screw collars because they don't damage the bit flutes as set screws do and can be easily adjusted to any depth. It is a great design.

Another good choice
Never owned a set before. Much more accurate than blue tape
and more convenient a block of wood slipped over the bit.

Goodbye masking tape!
These work perfectly! The tiny hex screw is a little tricky to get tight, but it's worth it to not have to worry about masking tape slipping or flying off.

Good product
I have only used the smaller sizes so far but they work well. You have to tighten clamp more than expected to be sure it does not slip but once you do that it works as expected.

A means is needed to get the correct depth when drilling holes for dowel pins with a hand drill. Tape was used on the drill bit, the bottom edge of the tape gets frayed when the tape is close to the drill guide.

works well if tightened on bit enough. I took a small length of aluminum tube to cover the bit between the chuck and the stop to keep the collar from walking up the bit (great help)
