It is an ideal wood for turnery, as it machines and polishes easily. These turning blanks are available in an assortment of sizes for bowls, platters, carvings, bottle stoppers, chess pieces, tool handles, table legs, spindles, finials, candlesticks and whatever else your imagination can conjure up!

    Osage Orange
This is a wood that I've never worked with before so I didn't know just what to expect. I found It's turning characteristics to be a lot like purple heart and the color is an eye pleasing orange. I sawed the block into four sq. pieces the length of original block and then into short blocks about 2 in. long. I'm using them for inside-out turned ornaments.

The piece of Osage Orange that I got was excellent. This was the first time I had seen it or worked with it. It turned really nice and had nice color to it. I split some pen blanks out of it and they made nice pens. After a couple of them had dried before turning they were pretty hard but still turned well. I also turned some bottle stoppers out of it that look pretty good. This is a wood that I will work with some more. I don't know if what I had was supposed to be dried or not but when turning it I could feel the wet in the chips coming off of it. I did have to watch it when finish sanding. If it got a little warm it would start to pull the abrasive off of the micro mesh.

    Nice looking material
I bought a 2x2x12 blank primarily for the color and because I had never worked with this wood before. It works fairly easily and finishes well, not to mention having a great color to it.

While it did turn well, it is not one of my favorites to work with and I would only choose it again for the aesthetics.

People complaining about the parts being green need to stop whining! It doesn't specifically say, so you assume it is green (meaning very wet), or you email customer service like I did and ask! All exotic woods are green/wet! And on top of that being a wood turner you should know that you don't just take a green piece of wood, remove the wax, go to town carving it, and leave it to air dry - that is how checking happens! It is in wax for a reason!
