Lid supports prevent chest lids from accidentally slamming shut on fingers. They feature a solid brass slide with a statuary bronze finish. Available in left-side, right-side and center-mount configurations. Each configuration is available is three load ratings.

Calculating the Number and Rating of Lid Supports
Use the following formula to determine the optimal number and rating of lid supports:
Lid width (front to back) x lid weight in pounds / 2 = Inch-lbs. of support required.

Example: Using an 18" wide lid weighing 12 lbs: (18 x 12)/2 = 108. Therefore, either two 45-55 or one 95-125 Inch-lbs support would be an appropriate choice.

Works great!
This product works exactly as advertised. I ordered tow of the lightest duty ones for the lid I made (about 40" wide and 13 1/2" deep and they were perfect. Worked a bit stiff at first, but loosened up quickly.

Works great
Assuming you order the correct in-lb model, this lid support works great. I found that I had to go to a heavier spring than suggested in order to have the lid be supported as advertised. I've used these supports on at least ten blanket boxes.

The lid (Equine tack trunk) only has one right side support which broke. I tried hardware store but they did not have inside mount; only top mount. Thought I'd have better luck on line and I did! :) I will now be putting one on each side.

I do not know the weight of board but know 16" x 35", want to know what size I need?
Keith S on Apr 10, 2015
BEST ANSWER: In order to properly calculate the strength of support and number of supports to use the lid needs to be weighed also.
will these work if the lid is attached with European overlay hinges?
Jeremy T on Nov 24, 2015
How do you install these?
Renee K on Jul 27, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Renee, just work off of the diagram on the packaging, make some small pencil marks with your tape measure onto your project, with the measurements on the package and take your time. They work very nicely... Bob
Will these rust if used for outdoor storage box?
Betsy W on Mar 22, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Actually, I'm not sure. They are steel with a coat of paint for appearance, but eventually all steel will rust. If installed properly, they will be protected from the elements under the lid, but they will be subject to humidity. I would think that they would probably outlast the box itself.
Hi, how do these hinges allow the top to close? If they're not slow-close, how does it work? I have a very heavy large cedar chest lid, that I'd like to prevent from accidentally closing. Thanks!
Jay S on Mar 24, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Hi,I am Leon's wife.He doesn't do computers. He used the hinge on a child's toy box.yo\Y]ou have to close the lid.You will need two of them. One on each side.He also used a piano hinge. You weigh the lid so that you no what size to get.He weighted himself and then weighted himself with the lid.The hinges are made so children don't get hurt.Hope this helps.edith
What is the center distance between the two screws that mount the lid support to the lid?
Larry S on Mar 9, 2016
BEST ANSWER: On the flat mounting end the distance is 3/4 inch center to center. On the raised mounting end it is 1 inch center to center. The mounts are spaced about 5 inches apart. I have made two toy boxes with slanted lids and this has worked well for me.
