I have used these before. Very handy, easy to install and substantial. I recess them in the vertical sides of a piece and make the shelves the same width as the opening. A versatile product.

Was the perfect choice for a project I built using plans from Woodsmith. Had to dado or rout a groove for the shelf standard to fit in to ( skill level 4-5 ) Install using screws provided and clips adjusted very easily.

Can these supports be installed routed into gypsum wall board if screwed to studs behind? I need to make 8 shelves capable of handling nearly 100 lbs per shelf. Are these brackets suited to this need? Thanks for your help with this.
sherrie n on Nov 21, 2015
BEST ANSWER: shelving brackets are designed to be installed into a routed groove, how ever I never routed Gypsum board. If you can get a clean groove cut into the Gypsum board, I don't see why these would not work. You will probably need longer screws to attach to studs behind. Hope this helps. Steve
I have a computer armoire made of fiber board,(not wood). Can I install this product to add shelves to it?
Carol P on Nov 4, 2016
BEST ANSWER: You should be able to surface mount these using #6 x 1/2" brass wood screws. I would not attempt to create a dado to mount this flush with the inside surface as this will likely substantially compromise the strength of the fiber board resulting in the board breaking along the dado.
Can these tracks be mounted on the surface of a bookshelf I'm building, or do I need to route a channel to place them in?
Kendra B on Jul 11, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I mounted these tracks on the surface inside a bookcase without inserting them in a routed slot and they worked very nicely. The only difficulty is making sure the slots in the tracks are directly across from the slots to align the selves; I clamped a one inch board along the top and bottom of the sides and back walls which assisted the alignment...
Is this per piece or a set of four?
Eliezer K on Jun 6, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The prices are per piece. Also, it is important that you buy the pieces that you need. For example, If you are making a cabinet with a 30"' interior you should consider purchasing 4 pieces of 36" (left and right sides and front and back). Do not try to save money by buying 2 pieces of 72". If you cut them in half (approximately) to fit your cabinet, the slots probably will not line up properly, and your shelf may be unstable. KV, the brand sold by Rockler, is high quality and the slots will always line up if the factory edge is on the base of the bookcase or cabinet, or mounted at the same distance above the base (use a shim block to be sure). In my experience, the slots on some of the cheaper shelf standards, often sold in home centers, do not always line up. So you would have to test them first and grind the bottoms of some of the standards to bring the slots into alignment. My favorite way to mount the shelf standards is to cut a dado in the sides of the bookcase or cabinet, before assembly, so that the standards are completely recessed. I buy them long and cut them to fit the full length of the dado. (They cut easily with a hacksaw.)
Has anyone used screws in place of the provided brads to mount these? If so, what size screw did you use (#3 or #4)?
Bob S on May 26, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I use #8 x 1/2" for mounting. My standards are installed in a dado so the surface is flush with my cabinet side.
How much weight can these carry? I'm looking to put some heavy entertainment devices. Can it carry 40 pounds?
Yinon S on Mar 19, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes... I made a cherry bookcase with 32 inch shelving and several shelves carry 40 lbs easily.
What is the width and depth to be routed and are the ends round or share?
Hartley H on Feb 27, 2019
BEST ANSWER: The width is 3/4" and the depth is 1/4". The ends are sharp and square.
How much weight would a 22 inch shelf hold using these?
Jrag57 on Dec 16, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I do not know the actual weight, but I used these Shelf Standards in a couple of bookcases with 46 to 48 inch long shelves that are 11 inches wide and 3/4 inches thick. These shelves are loaded with 9 inch by 6 inch by 1 1/2 to 2 inch thick books. Work Great!
The sides of my cabinet will be 11" wide. I want to use these standards for my shelves. How close together should they be on the sides?
Patricia A on Feb 27, 2017
BEST ANSWER: On 12" upper cabinets I typically space the standards 2" from the inside of the face frame and the back wall. I also recess them in a dado and then use 1/2" brass screws to secure them rather than using the nails supplied with the standards.
How much weight will the brackets support?
