These blanks are generously cut at 1-1/2'' square—a nice size for turning custom handles for tools, kitchen utensils, bottle stoppers and the like. You can also subdivide them into pen blanks or knife scales. The name ''Brown Mallee'' refers to a variety of Eucalyptus species with rich brown coloring. ''Mallee'' simply indicates that the tree grows in a stunted habit with multiple narrow stems and, very often, multiple burls. For this reason, Brown Mallee is almost always found in burl form. It has dense figure, tight eyes and turns well with sharp tools. As with all burls, care should be taken to fill any voids with CA glue before turning.
