Brusso Jewelry Box Lid Support
The JB-250 is too small for a large box. Too bad the JB-280 is unavailable.

Expensive, but they are the best.
I don't use these on every project because they are so expensive, and, you have to cut a precise mortise. But when the project is something special, and you want the best, these are the ones. They look like a million bucks, and work beautifully.

Excellent Lid Support
This lid support is described as being for jewelry boxes but I have used them in pairs on two large hope chests that I built for two of my daughters' sixteenth birthdays. They are a classy looking product and add an old school, heirloom appearance that I really appreciate. I plan on using them again for my last two daughters' hope chests!

The best box support out there.
It works great for my boxes I only have a 1/2 " to work with and this one in only a 1/4" wide.

Much easier to install than Quadrant...
Much easier to install than Quadrant Hinges and quality is excellent. I use these for Ashes Urn-boxes, Wedding gift card boxes and all other decorative boxes.

Looks great and works well but...
Looks great and works well but care must be taken when mortising in thin brittle stock to avoid breakout. Have had no problem with woods like walnut but figured cherry is tough to work with.

Does this support provide any tension for a closing lid? I have a customer concerned about the lid slamming on small fingers.
Ryano on Oct 22, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The lid support is a finally crafted device used to keep a box lid from flopping over backwards and stressing the hinges. It allows the lid to open around 100 degrees. The device does not have any springs or dampening to keep it from slamming closed. Hope this helps
How far does the lid stay open? as in 90 or 105 degree?
Josh s on Dec 14, 2015
BEST ANSWER: More like 105. They are designed to go past vertical when opened. But, in order for them to work as intended, you MUST follow the instructions to the letter. The distance from the hinge pin to the support body, as well as the distance from hinge pin to the support arm is critical. Get those right and you'll love these things. Get those dimensions wrong and you're in trouble!
Is there a weight limit for the lid?
sipaez on Apr 24, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I don't think there is a weight limit as long as you use it with smaller boxes. I have used these on some good sized jewelry boxes, and there were no problems. If in doubt, you could use two supports instead of one in order to have added strength. If boxes larger than large jewelry boxes are going to be constructed, then yes, you need to go to a large box support. This is under powered for anything ranging from small cedar chests and upwards.
