Well made
These seem to be well made and have a good sturdy feel. Time will tell, but the finish appears to be good and doesnt look like it will flake off like cheaper ones.

Coffee scoop
Very solid. Not like that company that sells all the pens. Their coffee scoop is just stamped out of sheet metal. Rocklers scoop is a casting.

Coffee smells so good now
Needed a coffee scoop to go in the camper since we were always forgetting the one I made previously. These are both functional and easy to turn. They also make good gifts for your coffee loving friends or family.

What tools are needed to turn a handle?
susan t on Dec 8, 2016
BEST ANSWER: with your lathe, you will need gouges, parting tool, sandpaper, epoxy and finish of your choice. I used Super Glue (CA) for my finishes but will try salad bowl finish or mineral oil on the next ones. Nice scoops, easy to assemble and great gifts. Be sure to order the bushings for these as well as the drill bit.
What size blank is needed?
A shopper on Aug 20, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The mating diameter is about .250. But here's the thing; You need to make the handle thick enough to not prone to crack around the post. I have used both urethane and wood. I was able to make the wood handle a little thinner because it isn't as fragile as the urethane.

Long story long...I would say a plank between .500 and .750. A nice finished length to shoot for is 5".
Where are these coffee scoops made?
Annalael on Dec 15, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Mine were made in Taiwan, far superior to China. Nice scoops, easy to assemble and great gifts. Be sure to order the bushings for these as well as the drill bit.
How is the handle turned? I don't see any instructions here. I've done ice cream scoops and pizza cutters, but they have mandrels to use for turning. Does this? Thanks!
Gary L on Nov 29, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I didn't use a mandrel just turned between centers on wood about half as much longer than I needed. Make the handle long enough to reach the bottom of a coffee can. I did pre-drill a small hole for the scoop first just to give me a starting point to drill the final hole
