Dust Right® Downdraft Table

Orbital sanders stir up lots of fine dust, which tends to stay afloat and eventually settle on everything in your shop. That's where the Rockler Downdraft Table can be a huge windfall for the air quality in your shop. It generates just enough downward airflow to get the dust to drop down into the table and out the chute to your dust collector. Its sides and back can be raised to assist in containing dust, or lowered/removed to accommodate larger workpieces. Internal baffles efficiently direct dust toward the 4'' port. When not in use, the unit can be easily hung on the wall of your shop using the keyhole slots. The panels are removable and tuck neatly inside the unit during storage.

Features:

  • Its sides and back can be raised to assist in containing dust, or lowered/removed to accommodate larger workpieces.
  • Grid of rubber grommets supports your work without risk of marring
  • Orange stops fit into the grommets to hold your work in place while sanding
  • 16-1/2'' x 20'' working area with sides/back raised—lower or remove the sides and back for larger workpieces
  • 4'' dust port allows easy connection to your dust collector (sold separately, minimum 650 CFM recommended)
  • Sturdy metal construction with a durable powder-coat finish
  • Carrying handles for easy transport
  • Adjustable rubber feet provide a firm footing

Nice Unit
This is a very sturdily constructed item with an excellent finish that should hold up for a long time. I have used it a fair amount for sanding 5-part cabinet door pieces and it really does a good job of reducing dust in the surrounding area and air. There's not even noticeable accumulation on the table it sits on. My only quibble is the fairly high price and the fact that the 4-inch Quick Change Handle doesn't fit very snuggly on the dust port (see my question above). As for the orange stops, they seemed like a good idea, but unless you are working on numerous pieces that are the same size, I think it would get tedious moving them all the time. I haven't used them at all and just hold whatever I'm sanding by hand. They would be more utile if they just fit snuggly in the holes and you could just push/pull to move them instead of having to flip each top section and then attaching a nut to each on the back. For these reasons, I wouldn't rate it a full 5, but it does what it's supposed to do (reduce dust) well and that's the most important thing.

Will it work with a shop vac?
David E on Jun 3, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I suppose it would work but with less suction when using a shop vac. You would also need hose adapters to connect with the table.
How big are the inlet holes?
Bill on Jun 24, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Larger holes are about 1"
the smaller holes are about 1/2"
The Quick Change Handle is somewhat loose when attached directly to the table. In the 2nd picture above in the product description, the quick change handle is shown attached to a fitting which is clamped to the outflow port. Which fitting is shown? I'd like to solidify the connection to make sure all suction is going through the table.
