Super easy!
I was hesitant to purchase this item as I felt it may be trickier than it actually is. I build approximately 1-3 frames each month for my artwork and this tool is perfect for that! It's easy to use, easy to hold stable, and if you listen carefully you can hear exactly when the nail is all the way into the wood. I'm so glad this awesome tool exists!

The practical framing tool
Initially I had doubts about this tool since it didn't look like much but after the first use, this tool clicked and I instantly recognized it's value. The magnetic tip holds the v nails in place while you set your line up, and the punch gives an even spread of force when you begin tapping away. This tool also works with small wire brads. This is faster and more reliable than using C-clamps, less expensive and more practical than the v nail press.

Very handy tool
I'm working on octagonal frames, so even if I wanted to spend the big bucks for a full V-nailer machine (which I don't), it looks like those are meant for rectangular corners. This tool works great for any angle miter, even into oak with little taps from my boatbuilders hammer.
Oak frame uses V-nails and fits inside existing octagonal window.

V-nailer
Works great for joining 45° corners on picture frames. Stock should be clamped in 45° holder to prevent spreading. Less than $50 an acceptable price.

I chose it because it seems like an economical, dependable way of joining frames. This with a belt clamp should work well.

I am a start-up, first time framer and do not want to spend a lot of money on expensive air or power tools for so few frames I will make for myself. Love tools, however and this will work just fine for now.

Other similar products like the Pushmaster and Logan V-nail insertion tools charge double the price. I already had a set of corner clamps from Home Depot and all I needed was a simple V-Nail punch to hammer the V-nails in miter cut frames. This tool in my opinion is still expensive at $41. Something as simple as this should be no more than 20 bucks.

Does the v nail tool work with hardwoods?
Gerald W on Nov 5, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It does work on hardwoods. Have been framing pictures for 12 years - my workshop does not have a joiner so I order the V-nail kit in all three sizes and they worked well. You must secure the wood in place with clamps. I also use wood glue - but once clamped, I inserted the v-nails in oak and walnut without difficulty.
Is the EZY framer v nail installation tool suitable with hardwoods and what "backing nail" is compatible with this tool?
Pete L on Jan 15, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I use it for V-nails in all sorts of frames, hard and soft. I do not use it for backing nails to hold in the backing but it appears that it would work with any small brad. I think it might be awkward but have never tried it for that.
Do you install the v nail by hand or use a hammer to tap the end of the tool to push it in?
Doug F on Sep 2, 2015
BEST ANSWER: You can use this tool to just install them by hand. They enter the wood pretty smoothly, just make sure the sharper end is in the wood. They may need a little tap at the end to be fully flush with the face of the wood.
The photo shows the tool and a yellow plastic pack holding the v-nails. The description says 100 1/4" v-nails. Is that the yellow packet? I need 1/2" nails. It looks like those are sold separately. Do they also come in a dispenser pack?
Denito on Oct 4, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I think the yellow package is the nails, but I believe mine just came in a bag. You'll need to buy 1/2 nails separately. Onca again, mine just came in a plastic bag.
Can I use any brand of v nail? Also, can I install the bendable tabs that hold the picture in place with this?
Ks10000 on Jun 19, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Use straight v nails making sure the sharp edge goes in first. Cassese is best.
Is there a video showing how it works?
William S on Apr 12, 2018
BEST ANSWER: There is a very clear video on YouTube but this site will not allow me to give you the URL. It's under MAGNETIC V NAIL PUNCH!
Not the same V nailer but works just as shown in the video. Biggest issue is to make certain which side of the V nail is down!
