Item #
76% of 100

Add narrow leaves to your table to create a round or oval top. 5-1/4" x 7-3/4" mechanism doubles as a hinge and support, and locks the leaves in either the closed or open position.

  • Stiff brass plated steel prevents sagging
  • No other supports are required
  • For table leaves up to 9" wide
  • Installation requires routing

Incredibly solid
It took me a little while to figure out how to install these. The directions were okay, but not stellar. I called support and the man had absolutely no idea how to use them. His suggestion was to make a sample and figure it out. Well, I didn't and I did figure it out. Rockler, write better directions and get better customer support.
I will say that they are incredibly strong. It takes 2 hands to lift or lower the table leaf. They hold the leaf up strong and solid. These are like mini bear traps. Keep your fingers out of the way!

This was the only hinge I could find that hides the leaf under the table - up out of the way. My leaf was 1.25 thick 9x24 inch so it may have been to heavy. Anyway it worked ok until my kid leaned on it and bent it.

Great product - unreliable logistics system
The hinges are a great product, but the effort trying trying to receive 50 pairs of these is staggering.
It's taken three & a half weeks to receive 9 pairs to New Zealand, and expecting it'll take as long to get the rest that are still sitting somewhere in the States.

I have used them before and they seem to be the sturdiest. They are not that easy to use but once the leafs are pulled up, they snap into place and do not move.

What is load limit on 9" leaf with two hinges and leaf length limits?
Larry F on Jan 21, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The answer cannot be as specific as the question. Another solution to the problem of supporting a leaf of 9" width is probably preferable.
Using the folding hinge would make it very difficult to fold down. This hinge is much more useful on a folding that takes a square table into a round shape, the leaf being no more than 7"" wide and circular on it perimeter.
A better solution to a wide leaf is a slider that retracts into, and extends from, the main structure of the table.
according to the instructions, the dado is only 1/2 inch wide, how does the dado come into play?
Al M on Apr 19, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The dado is just a nesting place to allow the hinge to sit flush with the underside of the table. They work great but beware as they are spring loaded and can bite you...FAST. I also threw the hardware in the miscellaneous pile as they are countersink heads and getting the leaf gapping perfect was impossible....(maybe with a hinge centering drill you could do it.....I doubt it) . I am very picky, so I bought pan head screws and washers to replace the countersinks and gained much freedom of adjustments.....Good luck
How many hinges do I need for a 42" x 42" sq. table that has 4 leaves to convert it to a 6" dia. round table?
nina l on Nov 29, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Four. One in the center of each leaf. the balance of the hinging can be continuous "piano" hinge. The actual diameter of the table will be determined by the diagonal, corner to corner of the 42" table.
Is there a drop leaf hinge stronger so a 18 inch leaf can be accomndated?
charles r on Nov 4, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The usual solution to the wide leaf is a "sleeper" or in other words a wooden sliding piece that pulls out from under the top to support the leaf once it is raised into position. A typical size for that sliding piece is about 1"wide x 1 1/4" thick and in your case, about 25" long. It would pull out about 12 or 13" and have 12" left under the main top to act as a cantilever.
Was thinking about using 2 hinges on a leaf but not sure if it will be too difficult to “collapse” 2 hinges at the same time.

Has anybody tried this?

Micha T on Mar 21, 2019
BEST ANSWER: I only use two hinges on my leaf tables. They are not too difficult to close. However, I have had to use a supplemental thumb support integrated into the legs to support large leaves of harvest tables due to the weight when the leaf is folded up under the table.
can they be used in a situation where they are in 90 degree position when open?
clint g on May 15, 2016
BEST ANSWER: No. The rigidity is only effective when the adjoining flats are in line ( at 180 degrees).
If you want the surfaces to be in a locked position then these won't work for you.
Has anyone recessed the hinge into the bottom of the table? The hinges are a little bulky at 3/32 inch thick. Will it still work if you do recess them flush into the bottom?
