Freud® LU83R Industrial Thin Kerf Heavy Duty Combination Saw Blades

Item #
GRP16430_1
Rating:
94% of 100

The ultimate combination blade is now available in a thin kerf design with Freud's LU83R. The groups of five teeth include one flat tooth for ripping, followed by four alternate top bevel teeth for crosscutting and a large gullet for effective chip clearance. This blade also features laser cut anti-vibration slots, practically eliminating the vibration that resonates in standard blades. With this combination blade, there is no need for stabilizers.

Features:
  • The Perma-SHIELD® coating covers the blade plate and cutting edge in a protective layer, reducing heat build-up
  • Perma-SHIELD® blades resist binding in large volume cutting, reducing subsequent blade warp. The coating lubricates the blade, allowing it to spin freely, and eliminates pitch and debris build-up on the blade
  • Freud-Made TiCo™ Carbide is durable and chemical-resistant for long life and razor-sharp cuts
  • Precision tensioning with computer-controlled equipment keeps the blade flat and true while maximizing blade life and performance
  • Perma-SHIELD® Non-Stick Coating is a state-of-the-art coating formulation that is superior to any today, and will withstand the toughest woodworking applications. Like Silver I.C.E.™, Perma-SHIELD® eliminates pitch and debris build-up reducing down time for cleaning
  • Features Ti-Co™ Hi-Density Carbide Combination Blend for maximum performance
  • Anti-vibration design
  • No stabilizers needed
  • Ships directly from the manufacturer.
  • Must be shipped within 48 Contiguous United States.
  • Estimated Delivery time: 10 business days.
  • 15% restocking fee on all returned merchandise.

Lives up to my expectations
I'm happy with this blade. Nice clean cuts, super smooth results, etc.

The only "complaint" I have (which really is my own fault/issue) is that it's thin kerf and my saws riving knife is too thick for this blade. That said, I took the riving knife off and all works great.

I should also mention, my experience with this blade may be slightly skewed... I previously was cutting on a 1970's Craftsman table saw with a 7 1/4" 24T blade. All around, this saw was a frustrating experience. When I bought this blade, I put it directly on a new Delta 36-6022 saw. This is the only blade I've cut with on this saw. So I don't have experience with other quality blades to compare this one to.

But, I really like the cuts I'm getting with my new saw blade combo!

Smooth
Have used this blade just once so far to split a once-inch thick piece of solid Australian canary wood and it cut very smoothly, no burn marks, etc. Seems like a solid addition to a blade collection.

New blade for old saw
I recently inherited my father's '50s Craftsman Table Saw. There was a bunch of old blades that came with it. I decided to update to a quality new blade, and selected the Freud thin kerf combo blade. I have been very happy with it so far.

Good blade for the money
I have several Freud blades for ripping, crosscutting, and combination cuts. I am happy with all of these Industrial class blades and they have plenty of carbide to be professionally re-sharpened back to like-new condition.

Great combo blade for radial arm saw
This blade has become my everyday, stays-on-the-saw almost-all-the-time blade for my radial arm saw. I do have a Forrest Woodworker I, which is specifically designed for radial saws, but in view of its price I reserve it for special projects. I don't want to cut 2x4s with it! I also own Freud specialty glue-line ripping and melemine/plywood blades, but the LU83 I use probably 90% of the time on every type of wood and various thicknesses including 2x stock. It always comes through. I bought this blade because, when ripping on a radial arm saw you do not want a blade with a hook angle greater than 10 degrees or you will risk having the saw pick up the wood and kick it back. This blade fits that requirement. (The Forrest WWI has a hook angle of 5 degrees). I also use hold-downs to keep the stock from lifting and have had no problem with kickback. A sharp blade is key to avoiding kickback and the LU83 fits that requirement as well. I have been so pleased with this blade that I just bought a second one so I can continue working while the other blade is being sharpened, because while I also have some less expensive blades I could put on the saw, after using the LU83 I don't want to use them any more.
