Rockler Horizontal Panel Router Bit Set With Wooden Case

Build beautiful, long-lasting raised panel doors of all sizes with this three piece boxed set.
Item #

Rating:

This rail-and-stile set includes everything you need to create raised-panel doors of nearly any size. The stile and rail cutters are full-height cutters. This means that if you jog your router table fence, they can be used to joint off saw marks — no need to sand or joint before routing. In addition, they feature guide bearings for template work such as arch-top doors. The panel raiser features a 5/8" radius ogee profile that goes well with the beaded profile on the stick work. All bits have sturdy 1/2" shanks for minimal chatter. Uses set up jig item #53779 for included Bead Stile, and Rail #91947.

(1) Rockler Ogee Horizontal Raised Panel Bit - 2-1/2" D x 5/8" H x 1/2" Shank
(1) Set of Rockler Bead Stile and Rail Router Bits - 1-3/8" Dia x 1" H x 1/2" Shank
(1) Storage case

I love it. Haven't used it on a project yet, but I did try it out on some scrap wood. It does exactly what it was designed to do and it does it very well. I would recommend it to friends and family.

I became a cabinet maker with my first try. I decided to make 2 cabinets for the garage, using less expensive wood the first time, and to learn.

I have a one speed router attached to a table. It is a good router and it accepts both 1/4 and 1/2 bits. Do I absolutely have to use a variable speed (low speed setting) router for use with these bits?

Will this work on 3/4" thick stock? As well as other thickness?
Bill M on Oct 23, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I purchased this set several months ago and used it to raise a panel on a door I built for a night stand from 3/4" oak boards. It worked perfectly. The cuts were smooth and coupled with the set up block for the rail and stile cutters, also available from Rockler, the outcome was much better than expected.
I have the horizontal panel router bit set with wooden case item 22576 what jig do I buy help !!!
Ronald O on Mar 12, 2016
BEST ANSWER: You'll need a router table, a Rockler Rail Coping Sled, some kind of work holding system to hold the wood down and against the fence.at the very least. Make sure your stock is absolutely straight and go slow. I took 3 passes on the panel cutting bit, raising the bit a little each time until I got the profile I wanted. Hope this helps.
Set Up Jig? Sorry...a bit confused. Not sure which set up jig I need to order that will work with this set. I see the comment in the Horizontal Panel Router Set description but the item numbers provided don't seem to make sense. Any help appreciated.

BEST ANSWER: If you are purchasing the raised panel door 3 piece set 22576 the overview calls for "Uses set up jig item #53779 for Bead Stile, and Rail #91947. Hope this helps. Remember to only cope (route) the ends of the styles(vertical pieces). I coped everything thinking I was being efficient and had to start over
What is setup for using the horizontal panel bit? No manual or instructions was include with specs/dimensions/max speed limitations.

BEST ANSWER: James, I understand since I was in the same boat -- novice woodworker! I found a great video by Norm Abrams that explains how-to make raised panel door using these three bits. Google "norm abrams router part 2" and you can see it too. He provides some great tips and I had no problem building a raised panel door on my own.
Which set up jig do I need for Panel Router Bit Set?
