Hot-Melt Edge Bandings – 25' Rolls

Item #
GRP32101_1
Rating:
90% of 100

An ordinary household iron is all you need to apply this premium hot-melt edge banding. Just position the edging on the edge of your plywood or other substrate and smooth it with a few passes of an iron or slide it through an edge-banding machine. Suitable for straight-line edges as well as contours. Bandings are impregnated with a high-speed hot-melt glue that creates a permanent bond. They also are pre-sanded and readily accept stains and finishes. Both solid wood edge bandings and melamine edge bandings are available.

Features:
  • Wood edging is made of solid hardwood veneer
  • Available in a variety of wood species – some of them difficult to find in edge bandings

No complaints at all!
Using the banding on thinner pieces of wood such as 1/2" worked well. I also used it on a rounded outside corner - it was an arc similar to a 4" circle.

workeds as expected
You can use an old iron on the cotton setting or a new one with foil put on the plate to prevent any damage to it. I have used this before. I did find one spot that had a defect and was thinner than the prescribed width but other than that it seals fast to the work and is easy to use. The mahogony is horizontal grain.

It worked well and stayed in place. I also liked the thickness of the banding. I would order again.

Cherry edge banding
With the edge banding being made of real wood, I was able to stain and lacquer it to match the drawer fronts.

Very easy to use and worth the price.
Building a fire place surround using Oak plywood, the hot melt edge banding was the perfect touch around the edges. Using a regular steam Iron (no water) it worked easier than pressing a shirt. Follow the instructions that come with it and even a first timer like me can do a professional job.

Not for high humidity areas
Installed the edging per instructions, came back the next day and several places had turned loosed. I live in an area that has high humidity. Attempts to re-iron them failed. Next time I'll buy the PSA edging - it works so much better.

Does it comes in a 1 3/8" strip?
Mike H on Nov 11, 2019
BEST ANSWER: I don't know; that's a question for Rockler. I do know however that Rockler sells a veneer saw and a veneer edge trim tool that make easy work of trimming a larger size down to fit your application once the veneer is heated into place.Don't forget to soften the cut edges with a mill file. Hope this helps.
Would this work to cover a seam of two pieces of wood?
Kristen E on Dec 10, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I believe it would as long as the two pieces of wood are reasonably close. I have used it on thinner edges of about 1/2" and trimmed the banding appropriately and it has held up well. The trick is to make sure the heat covers the entire banding so the adhesive can bond as much as possible.
will this adhere to pva glue?
craig r on May 12, 2015
BEST ANSWER: you do not need glue. It has a hot glue backing that melts and adheres to the wood surface. You need a regular iron set to cotton setting to adhere it. You simply line it up on the edge of the wood and press the iron for just a second to adhere the start and then move the iron down the edge and it glues it to the surface instantly. Do not leave the iron in place for more than a second or two or you may scorch the banding. It is simple but you do have to have some dexterity.
could this adhere to a mirror or glass?
robyn g on Jan 12, 2019
BEST ANSWER: I’m quite sure it would adhere nicely to glass. However, the heat required to melt the adhesive could crack the glass. My advice would be to somehow heat the banding before touching the glass with the banding.
