Excellent machine. The belt sander table is difficult to keep in proper adjustment.

Great Machine
this is a very good quality machine...maybe not for Professional or Heavy duty jobs with metal and such...but does awesome work of wood and the the cast iron table is the bomb...spacious and great to work off of..also love the idea of the graphit pad behind the sanding was a snap to set up the roller guide and the belt holds it spot dead mine with the standing cabinet and love the storage space and clean look it offers....would definitely recommend

No Buyer's Remorse
After much data gathering, Internet review searches and fact checking I bought this model from Rockler.
Assembly and set up went well. Sanding is fast and easy. It has a dust port in the rear which is very effective when connected to my dust extractor. Belt changing gets easier with practice. Overall I highly recommend this sander. Very happy with it.

Solid machine
Solid machine works well. Only reason I didn’t give five stars is their are some plastic parts probably don’t need anything else but why build such a solid machine and have any plastic on it

The sander and base arrived in good shape, and initial set up was not difficult. The only problem occurred getting the belt to change from the horizontal to vertical position. It was stuck in the horizontal plane. I finally gently tapped the base of the motor (where the belt assembly swivels) to loosen the paint with a rubber mallet, and that did the trick. The 4 inch dust port works well with my dust collector, which is great and avoids spreading fine dust all over the place. Just started using the sander, but so far, the unit is doing well.

Great for woodworking
The Good:
1. This unit is powerful enough for the woodworking I do. There has been some reports (recent Wood magazine comparison where it is called it's "Best Value") that it can be slowed down under medium pressure. But with 80 or 120 grit belts even hardwood disappears so quickly that only light pressure is needed.
2. Both support tables are large enough to be useable and the Cast Iron table can be quickly moved from one to the other surface if you need the miter gauge.
3. The closed stand comes equipped with lockable casters so that it can be moved or realigned in the shop to handle the infrequent need for a longer project.

The Bad:
1. I do have a recommendation for the product, or actually for the closed stand. It needs a bigger door so that the new belts can more easily be put inside.
2. This may not be fair as I haven't called customer support yet but when you move the belt up or down into the other position the belt tracking needs attention. Not catastrophic in my case where it only moves a half inch.
3.The single rod that inserts into the body does not support the table in a rock solid way even when tightened down. This is a nit in that it only moves a little bit.
4. The dust collection works really well on the disc side but only so so on the belt. The the edge of the lower dust hood mounts very close to the belt. Probably a safety issue to keep fingers from between the hood and the belt but the table rest is already there for that. If I pop the dust hood latches open and leave maybe a quarter inch wider gap more air flow reaches out and grabs much more dust.

The Other:
Most other units that you have used before have the disc mounted on the oppostie side of the belt and motor combination that makes the disc spin counter-clockwise. This disc spins clockwise.

Replaced an old Delta 4x36 benchtop belt sander. The Jet got very good reviews and was on sale.

Great price on sale and solved placement as I did not want to use work bench space for the tool.

Can you put wheels on the stand?
Leonard B on Apr 18, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Leonard, the base comes with wheels that can be released to move the tool around and locked in place when you are ready to use it. Even if it did not come with wheels, or you prefer a different type of mobile base, you could easily put a mobile base on it as I have done with other Jet machines.
does it have an internal dust collection system?
A shopper on Jun 21, 2015
BEST ANSWER: It does not have and internal dust collections system. It has a hook up for an external dust collections system though which I would recommend that you use. This sander does a good job for what I have used it for.
can I buy the stand only?
Bill S on Dec 1, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes. Go to Jet tools website and search for sander. It will be listed as an option and has a product ID# for ordering.
