Hard to find a good 6x48 sander
After reading a lot of reviews I decided on the JET. While there are likely better ones of the market, the price of the JET makes it the best value. I bought it without the stand as I could easily build a stand with storage that is a little shorter than the factory stand for my best working height. I did have to chase the threads on the lever/bolts and their holes to get them to fit properly. While I did not need this good of a machine (and price) there is nothing available of any quality between it and the very cheap 4X36 bench top units.

    Much better
This is the second combination disc/belt sander I have purchased in the last two months. The first, a competing brand, turned out to be a great disappointment and was returned. It was a couple hundred dollars less than the Jet, but was the most obvious example of a U.S. corporation lining their pockets by using what has to be one of the worst Chinese machine shops. I am aware that the Jet is made in China as well (the vast majority of machines are), but at least Jet has a conscience regarding quality control of their products. For this type of machine, I don't think there is much better, nor does there need to be for a sander. The review lost a star because the smaller belt table is slightly cupped. Pony up the few more bucks, buy the Jet and be happy.

Have a jet lathe and love it. This looks to be a good shop piece of equipment and versatile.

what is a lift gate? It asks if I need one.
    mark w on Apr 28, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Lift gate refers to the truck that would deliver the sander to your home. The sander is heavy, so they are saying that if you don't have a loading dock, then the truck would need to have a lift gate (maybe at extra shipping expense to you) to lower the sander to the ground level. I picked mine up from the store, and one of the Rockler employees helped me get in into the back of my car. When I got it home, I was able to slide it out of the car hatchback onto my garage floor. If you have help around your house, two people could manage it I think. Driver may or may not want to help, and there may be union or company regulations about helping.
