Laguna C|Flux 1.5hp 1-Micron Cyclone Dust Collector

The c|flux:1 is part of a series of Laguna cyclonic dust collectors that feature a horizontal chute designed to maximize airflow while improving the volume of air moved (measured in cubic feet per minute, or CFM). It comes with a high-frequency remote control, a 1.5hp, 110v motor (convertible to 220v with upgrade kit-sold separately) that delivers as much as 1,314 CFM and a pleated canister filter made from 48 square feet of spun-bonded polyester. The filter provides maximum airflow and removes 99.97% of particles between 0.2 and 2 microns in size. A handle attached to an internal flapper can be manually cranked 270° to dislodge dust from the filter.

An ingenious lift system quickly picks the 32-gal. drum up off the floor and seals it against the drum lid, avoiding the need for a flex hose. This design makes the unit more easily portable because the drum wheels don't contact the floor when the unit is moved. The drum lowers easily onto the wheels for emptying.

Built like a tank
I was in the market for a cyclone dust collector. This one was on sale and the local store had one in stock so I was able to avoid the shipping costs. This dust collector is replacing a two HP 220V bag collector.

I read many reviews on this and other sites. The common theme is that the instructions for assemble leave something to be desired. The sales staff at the store said if you can get it assembled in three hours your doing great. It took me about three and a half to get it up and running. I found that a quick review of the assembly instructions and the parts break down helped assembly. There are a few pieces that aren't mentioned in the assembly instructions. I used the parts break down to install them.

Overall i was impressed on how solid the unit is. I also like the fact that there is literally no leakage from the filter assembly.

My only complaints would be the size of the remote and the 220 volt setup. I was used to a larger remote with the other collector. The staff at the store indicated that the unit is 220 volt ready. That is partly true. To run 220 a new control unit from Laguna is required. I will see how the 110 goes and decide in the future if I will do the conversion

Better than expected! Great quality design.
I just got this unit assembled (with help from Laguna’s awesome YouTube video) and it is impressive! It generates a lot of suction. I am in process of piping it into my workshop, so I can’t comment on the dust collection yet but the drop-down cart is brilliant and I am very impressed with its overall power and design. Much more than I expected from a 110V machine.

FIne sucker
Did a lot of homework on 110 volt dust collectors and found this one to get top marks. I can now add to the reviews since I have one. For what its worth this is the best looking machine out there. It is very convenient and does some serious sucking for a 110 volt machine. Only problem is the dorky instructions. Someone needs to fire the person who wrote them. Laguna needs to pay attention to this problem concerning instruction on putting the machine together. It will make a preacher cuss!

Woodworking Experience:
Awesome dust collector
This Laguna dust collector replaces my "home built" shop vac/dust deputy unit that I've used for over 5 years. Still gonna use it for pad sander, general cleanup, etc., but the Laguna is going to be used on the major machines (planer, jointer, table saw, band saw, router table, etc.,).

Overall, the assembly was quick ... but, I recommend strongly that you watch a couple of assembly you tube videos by Laguna and read the "wanna be" instruction manual that needs to be updated!

The pictures in the manual are poor quality and don't match many of the parts that are on my machine. The parts pages are so blurry that it's hard to read the fine print. Also, throw away the wrenches that came with it ... a good set of ratchet wrenches will speed the assembly process. Make sure you have that second person to help move the unit in the upright position during assembly...!!!

The other minor issue was there was no tracking number to use to find out when the unit was going to be delivered. Rockler needs to improve that customer contact especially on a major purchase like this. After I got a call from UPS (nearly 3 weeks later) I finally got a tracking number. All these issues are minor, but frustrating.

Very Nice! Well worth the investment.
My first dust collector is a shop vac with a "Dust Deputy" cyclone. It worked ... but this is so much better!

Great investment.

The best things about this collector are:
- The ease of use of chip collector.
- Powerful suction.
- Compactness.
- Remote control.

There is one thing I was not too impress about ... it is the manual. As is if this is the first time you have ever put together a Laguna dust collector ... do a search for a video on youtube and watch it first. It will save you a lot of time and frustration.

Overall I love this thing ... works amazingly.

Great unit
I have had this dust collector for about a year now, and I have no complaints. It works great, and the remote has a very long range. I tested it from almost 200 feet away, and it was still able to activate the unit, so even if the signal will need to go through a wall, you still shouldn't have any issues.

I do have a couple complaints, though it wasn't enough to knock off a star. Like others have said, the assembly instructions could be better, but it's still worth the extra effort. I also would have like to see Laguna do something better with the collection bag under the pleated filter. The way they did it is pretty much industry standard, but it's a little tricky to get the bag and clamp ring on without help, and with how innovative Laguna is, this seems like an oversight.

Overall though, this is a great unit that has performed beautifully for me every time I turn it on, and I would definitely buy it again, in spite of the minor shortcomings.

Top quality dust collector
Great dust collector for the money, top quality. The only problem was in the installation instructions. Had to take the legs and support twice. Also ordering it through Rockler there was go tracking of the shipment provide only a cal the day before the shipper delivered, not a good thing.

Great Dust Collector
I love this machine. I have it connected to five different tools, and use gates to direct the air flow (but use only one tool at a time). The machine is very well-engineered - the cyclone separator is very effective - even when cutting MDF. Very little dust makes it to the second stage plastic bag. I ran a dedicated 110V, 30 amp circuit, and it works without hesitation. Assembly was super easy after watching the Youtube video a couple times. With standard hearing protection, the noise level is fine. I LOVE the remote control that I clip to a button on my shirt so that it is always handy. You will not regret buying this machine!

Is there a 220 volt option?
Paul A on Dec 9, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It actually is not difficult to convert to 220. Basically Laguna will sell you a new circuit board and circuit breaker and email you the instructions of how to do it. Also the motor will need to be rewired, again, not difficult. There is a wiring diagram on the inside of the motor housing detailing 110 vs 220. The parts from Laguna are about $50 US and the time to rewire and install the circuit board is maybe 1 hour and I am slow.

I am about to have my shop built and intend to purchase the C/Flux. I have the opportunity to install ductwork in the floor. Can you recommend best ductwork to purchase and where I might buy it?
Gary S on May 24, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Rockler, a competitor, or a big box store. Once you start installing the duct work you will probably have to purchase parts and pieces (making several trips back to the store). So make sure you have a store you can go to in order to get additional parts (vs waiting for an on line order to arrive). Be sure to use copper braided wire to ground all duct work. Rocker sells a copper wire kit for grounding. When you put together the saw dust collector have someone help you. It takes 3 -4 hours to complete.
Can the lid of the cyclone be rotated 180 degrees so the power on/of controls are facing the other direction?
AlanNH on Dec 31, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The top is secured with several bolts, which looks like it can be removed and turned. But I'm not sure if turning the power supply affects the dust collection just under the top. However, the best thing to do is call Laguna.
How loud is this collector? If it was, say 15 feet away would it be to loud? Can you tell me the db level?
GARY C on Nov 26, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The dBA level is 82. Yes, it is loud and with another machine running (table saw, planer, jointer) the noise is even louder. However, I wear 3M optime 105 hearing protection and all I hear is a low hum. For now, my dust collector is 10 feet away from my woodworking machines. I plan to install PVC tubing, but the dust collector will still be within 20 feet of my woodworking equipment. Any other questions?
The specs on Laguna site says needs 30 amp for 115v. Pececs here say 18 amp draw Which is this correct? That would require a dedicated run probably 10Ga wire for 30 amp. Or how difficult to convert to 220v Rockler stats an optional upgrade kit
Gary M on Jan 2, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I have the P flux, same 1.5hp as the C Flux, I ran a dedicated 20amp circuit just for this dust collector prior to purchase. Every other time I turned the machine on the cb would trip. I would then reset it and the dust collector would run fine. Next time, same thing. I believe it you are sticking 110 a 30 amp circuit will be a better plan because the initial power draw does go over the 20 amps. I decided to convert mine to 220 with their kit and haven't had a problem since.
If collector were setup outside, could remote controller still be used inside? Can IR receiver be remounted?
Chris S on Jun 2, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I can't answer that for sure ... it works great and is a super vac system. I'm thinking of doing the same thing myself. Just to give me a little more room in my shop. If the ir pickup light is mounted separately from the board I don't see why you couldn't place it somewhere else. I'll hav to look.. sorry I could give you more right now.
Does the price include the stand?
Steve B on Apr 30, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes. The unit will be the one pictured when assembled. You will have to supply an appropriate plug, as the unit comes only with a wiring harness.
How long is the power cord?
Brandon O on Jul 13, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Hi ... the power cord is approx 6 ft long. It's something you can increase in length with little problem. I'm very happy with this system. Very well constructed, and I love the remote. There is assembly required when you receive it. Very straight forward. Worth the money. You won't be sorry.
How many boxes does this come in? I am over 70 and need to get it into a basement workshop.
Beetle on Mar 6, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I don't remember how many boxes. But I can tell you the main unit comes in a crate and it is heavy. The delivery will only be made to your driveway (at the street) so you have to move it from your driveway to your shop. I used a two wheel dolly (by myself) and it was heavy. I had to take the unit out of the crate in order to get it through a 36" door. You will definitely need someone to help you.
Does the 1.5 hp unit come with plug attached?
Rich W on Sep 15, 2017
BEST ANSWER: No, it does not come with a plug but does come with 6 ft of chord. You must buy the plug for your country's power supply separately.
What is the effectiveness / advisability of using with 2 1/2" hose?
Skipper B on Jul 20, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Your best option is to run the largest diameter as far as you can. In other words, use a minimum of 4" house for mains and drops ... run this all the way to the tool ... and make any conversions to smaller diameters at the tool. Using 2.5" hose/pipe for the long runs would actually under-use this dust collector. With the power of this unit, I'm not sure it would be effective or advisable to use that size as the primary size for permanent or semi permanent installations. Mos effective use: 4" or larger for mains, conversions to smaller sizes at or near the tool. Make sure to use blast gates at drops. You might want to check with your local Rockler dealer, assuming you aren't too far from one!
How can I use this with my iVac remote starter? If it's magnetic switched, that usually means I can't just turn it on and put another switch in front of it.
J G on Apr 17, 2018
BEST ANSWER: You are right. You need to remove the switch that comes with the collector and wire directly to the motor. I wanted to upgrade my unit to 220V anyway so this was the perfect solution. I just purchased 8 ft of 12/3 wire and a male plug and then rewired the motor as indicated by the labels. I then plugged the motor into the iVAC switch (220V version).

How much differance between 1hp and 2hp ?
John D on Jun 27, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Hi john. The c|flux 1 actually has a 1.5hp motor but you can expect 25% more suction from the c|flux 2 with the 2hp motor. This is confirmed in our testing: we measured the inlet suction from the 1.5hp motor at 1314CFM (cubic feet per minute), and the 2hp motor at 1740CFM. This is a 24.67% increase in suction.
