Impressed. Easy repeatable process and helps create amazing dovetail joints.
It takes some time to set up, so don’t be too excited to get right to creating dovetails. The setup does help familiarize yourself with the jig though. Also be sure to read through the section your planning to accomplish in the book before trying.

Great Investment
Took me a couple of test boards to get used to it but I love it. Cuts amazing tight dovetails. I am doing a house of cabinets with dovetail drawers and pull-outs. Once you have it set for the board size you can power through them in no time

Woodworking Experience:
Unbelievable quality and precision
Ok, let me start off by saying this jig looks intimidating when you unpack it. Just take your time and enjoy the quality of the machining. The instructions are top notch for setup and installation on a workbench, but I would recommend reading through them one time before attempting to use it. If you are unfamiliar with dovetail joints, the manual will explain exactly what each piece is, Pins vs. Tails... etc. Price - yes its expensive, you definitely get what you pay for, I would do it all over again if asked. I would recommend getting the accessory kit, especially if this is one of the first times you'll be making dovetails, the instruction book will match you up with the exact stock size you need with specific router bits for the type of joint you are making. I hope this helps you make a decision. Oh one last note - if you purchase the vacuum accessory, Do NOT lift the router up until it finishes spinning completely or you will catch the support bar with the router bit.

Woodworking Experience:
Worth every penny
After having a great deal of difficulty with another brand dovetail jig (NOT Rockler) and sending it back I bought the Leigh D4R Pro unit.
After a couple of days looking at the box, i opened it and put it together.
After a few more days I decided to give it a try on thru DT joints. I cut the extra pin board as recommended and got to it.
First cut on the pin board resulted in a very tight joint. Made the recommended adjustments and the rest were perfect. I am very happy so far. Blind DTs next.
Great instructional manual too.

Woodworking Experience:
Be aware to use properly takes some practice
Purchased this jig to do a series of drawers for a project - spent one evening just reading the manual before even taking the rest of the jig out of the box. Spent the next evening just putting the thing together and getting comfortable with the working of the machine - I cut a lot of practice pieces and was glad I did - there are a lot of fine adjustments and getting a feel for working with the jig takes some time. Spent several evenings working though different practice joints to get the feel of things with the router - once you do a few you get a feel for how everything works together - I don't think you are simply going to make great joints right out of the box - I have cut about 30 joints with it now and have not noticed any of the slipping referenced in other reviews - the fingers lock tight on my jig and don't move I do have the vacuum attachment and it is wonderful for support - still quite a lot of shavings, but not nearly as much as without the attachment - the support is the really great part - really makes using the jig much easier - be careful when attaching the arms to the support - the first time I had them in the center and the router wouldn't go all the way to the left - also the router guides do tend to slip out if you are not careful - several of the cuts that they advertise - sliding dovetail and angled dovetails - are not really covered in the manual - you have to go to other locations to get instructions - there are some YouTube videos from the company that are pretty good and they send those on DVD as well - overall a good jig - I have used several other jigs and this is a little more complicated but is easily the best I have used.

Woodworking Experience:
It is a nicely designed product. I find the step by step directions for executing a through joint, for example,to be confusing. I would rather there was a step by step manual and the footnotes were all at the beginning or end of each section and clearly marked. I guess it will tale a lot more time than I thought to really become proficient with it. Obviously a lot of time and engineering went into this product.

There is one thing I truly do not like: the vacuum and router support hood is not level, try as I might to make it so. (perhaps this is by design? The result is my router rocks just a bit and it contributes to a bit of chipping no matter how slow I go.

Woodworking Experience:
Issue with cast aluminum body - concerned about accuracy
When I attempted to attach the VRS support bracket on the right side of the jig, it clamped the aluminum body between it and the finger support arm making it impossible to raise/lower the finger support on that side. I made some measurements and found that there was a manufacturing flaw in the aluminum body.

I contacted Leigh support and they are sending me a replacement body and VRS support arm. This does not give me confidence in the accuracy of the jig, and I would expect better quality from a jig at this price, and for as long as they have been making this model.

I will reserve my final review once I recieve and try the replacement parts.

Total noob at woodworking here. I'm trying to figure out what parts go with what other parts. What I have is a router and a router table. What do I need to buy to ultimately make the cool isoloc wave, clover, etc joints (after lots of practice)? I wanted to use the table router with RTJ400 but it looks like that doesn't work with the fancy templates. It looks like I need the DR Pro jig and the templates (sold separately, of course). I went to a Rockler store, but the guy I talked to kind of blew me off.

Rockler's Complete Dovetail Jig with Dovetail Jig Dust Collector Combo

It's been nearly 2 years since I upgraded to the Leigh Jig system. When I purchased my system, they provided very thorough instructions in both print and video formats. If this is your first dovetail jig system, you're walking right to the Rolls-Royce of them all (in my opinion). Leigh has some unique features incorporated into their system that can make dovetailing a much more satisfying experience for beginners and professionals alike. Dovetail jigs are primarily designed for hand held use only. One should have a fair amount of experience operating, maintaining and caring for a hand held router before attempting dovetail routing. I won't assume your experience level, and only mention it for the sake of safety. I have the D4R system which will accept the unique templates you have interest in. I happen to own the "clover" template, but have yet to use it. Leigh seems to be good about giving complete information about all necessary bits and guide bushings when purchasing their accessories. Whatever brand of jig you ultimately land on, this is a craft that will take some practice and patience to master, but it's well worth it. There is no substitute for a tight ffitting drawer joint that could out live your grandchildren! Hope this helped. Remember, safety first.

Need to know are there different templates for d4r pro jig other than what came with it?
Greek on May 6, 2017
BEST ANSWER: yes, it comes with dovetail jig which can do some finger joints, but there is an additional jig for finger joints F3, and an isoloc jig, and a mortise and tenon jig
will the D4R make minature dovetails?
Dan B on Sep 4, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Hi Dan -- By using Leigh bits 50-8 and 60-8, you can create tiny through dovetails in material 3/8" or less in thickness. The jig was not originally designed for it, because the TD PINS scale doesn't go down far enough. Thus you have to space the boards away from the jig face with a shop-made block fitted with its own side stop (a thin piece of stock glued to the block, and drilled with countersunk holes to allow it to be fastened to the jig with a flat-head machine screw). The foregoing is a paraphrase of the instructions on pp. 29-30 of the D4R Pro User Guide; I have not used the jig this way myself. To confirm, you might call Jan Heath at Leigh. They have an 800 number which Rockler's computer program won't let me provide here. She is very helpful, and I'm sure would be willing to answer all your questions, even if you haven't bought the jig yet. Also check the Leigh web site. By the way, I found it very useful to order the demonstration disk for the jig and to view it both before I bought it and then again before I used it the first time. It's a wonderful tool.
It’s unclear what comes with the accessory kit. Is it the AC-D24 which is priced separately at $279.?
Ki J on Apr 11, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Leigh D4 accessory kit includes the (VRS) vacuum and router support and 12 piece bit set. Leighs ingenious VRS provides router support and dust-free routing. The 12-piece bit set features 1/2" and 8mm shank bits.

Is the Leigh D4R Pro 24 inch jig able to make box joints?
