Woodworking Experience:
Four Glass doors in a bookcase
I was worried that these 1/4 safety glass doors would be too heavy for the hardware.
They are about 2 feet square with a 3in painted poplar frame.
I got the strongest set and they work very well.
We followed the directions and the installation was smooth.
Our only trouble was that, since the doors are in pairs, we had to play around a bit to get the doors aligned when open.
But the clients love them so I look like a genius.

Great product.
It does the job intended for, good quality and strong. It requires 2 people for installation but an experience carpenter can do it alone.

lift-O-mat Gas Spring Lid Support
These are great. Holds my cabinet doors that open up at 90 degrees. They are very firm and for most average cabinet doors you may only need to place one rather than one on each side

We bought the lighter weight lifts for our upper kitchen cabinets several years ago, and thought we had ordered the heavier ones for the largest door. The lighter weight lift operates to lift the larger door, but it slowly falls half way down, so we're ordering the stronger 150 to keep the door up. We have really enjoyed having the cabinet doors open upwards.

BEST ANSWER: You will need to adjust the angle of the attachment to the top and side of the cabinet
What hinge should be used with the springs for ace frame overlay cabinets ?
john g on Dec 29, 2015
BEST ANSWER: We used full overlay Grass European style hinges....they worked fine.
The trick was to accurately determine the pivot point since the installation measurements work from that point.
Would they work on a trap door on a play house?
Ed R on Jun 19, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Perhaps. It would depend on the weight of the trap door and on its design.

The overview section of the product page shows the recommended door weights for the various gas spring models. If your door is within one of these weight limits you should be OK - tho if I were you I would maybe get a more powerful spring than the table indicates in order to compensate for the fact that I believe these springs are designed to lift a vertically hung ( e.g. hinged at the top) door.

A bigger issue for you might be how wide the springs open. You can see from the photos on the product page that the hinge assembly will limit the opening angle to less than 90 deg - which for a trap door would mean that entry/exit thru the trap door will likely require bending/crawling thru an opening on one side only.

Good luck
I need to install on a face frame cabinet with inset doors. Can this be done?
Bill on Jun 19, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I am pretty sure they can. It has been awhile since I have seen the installation sheet but I do believe they give the layout in the instructions.
Hello. I have completed the Rockler Steamer Trunk plan with a 15.2 lb white maple lid. Lid is 20 inches deep from hinges in back to front edge. I'd like to use 150N LiftOMat gas springs, attached to inside of box side, and other end of lift attached to inside of the side of the lid. My question is: can you tell me specific attach points for both ends of Lift OMat in this application? There will be one gas spring on each side, and I'd like to place them on inside of lid & box to keep them out of the way as much as possible. Don't want to misplace them and mess up nice interior of box/lid.
JohnB on Jan 24, 2016
my closet door will not close all the way. how do I adjust the gas pressure?
Judy V on May 2, 2017
I believe it he's more to do with the location of the mounting brackets. I'm not sure if there is any physical adjustments on the spring itself.
If it is possible to disconnect one of the brackets (ideally one with more room to be relocated), and close the door then mark the location of the bracket with the door in the closed position. Once you mount it and reattached the spring, it should close all the way.
I hope this helps!
Can these handle a 80pound lid?
Mitch on Sep 17, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Not the ones I bought. They barely handle the wood door I use them with,
can they be used in combination with european hinges when the door is inserted in the frame, not overlayed?
A shopper on Jun 11, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I have used these many times with the European style hinges and they have worked perfectly. However, I have not used them on an inlay door. However, the principles are still the same with the hinges whether they are inlay or overlay and the same would go for the gas springs. The hinge determines how the door opens and the gas springs only hold it up, so I would say that you should be fine.
does anyone know if these work well for a flush inset door?
A shopper on Jun 2, 2015
BEST ANSWER: they worked great for me. easy to install, and no problem with supports that were installed 4 years ago
bought gas lifters several years ago from Rockler, but now they won't hold the door up. Do they need some kind of gas refill? Don't know what to call it.
Regina C on Nov 11, 2018
BEST ANSWER: We had the same problem, ended up replacing them with the next size up which were more heavy duty. Not refillable.
Part 32924 (smallest version of this hinge): what are the dimensions of the bracket face attachment for the part of the hinge that attaches to the cabinet door? I'm using a door with lites/mullions and glass and am concerned that the mount will be larger than the wood frame of he door. Thanks! Mary Ellen
Mary Ellen W on Dec 4, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The part of the hinge at the top of the door is 3 inches wide, with 3 screws. The outside screws fasten at 3/4 inch in, and the middle screw fastens at 1 inch in. The part of the hinge with the arm is attached at 1 !/4" with screws and the metal extends 1 5/8" from the edge of the door. You will need at least 1/4 inch to make room for the screws to hold. In other words, the top frame of your door needs to be 1 1/4" and the edge of your frame needs to be 1 5/8".
Would these work on a bin type cabinet? I have a custom made built in hamper (door with a wooden box mounted to it) that needs something to 'slow it down' when being operated, especially when closing. There is room on both sides inside to accommodate these.
rewdwuerkz on Oct 25, 2016
Should work fine if the weight of the door is matched to the operational guide found in the overview...
I hope this helps...
Can you adjust the tension on the gas spring?
A shopper on Apr 22, 2015
BEST ANSWER: No. U must order the proper lift pressure based on the weight of the cabinet door
I can adjust open position to only 70° by moving mounts out right?
Shane R on Jun 7, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Yes, I built a Case that had a wide lip for the hinge. Found these and adjusted to the best opening I could get and made to 70 degrees +. Did not make 90 but yes, just by opener attachment movement, you can achieve 70 degrees. Hope this helps.
Need this for old shallow wooden desk with heavy lift top. How much depth do I need in the desk?
Peggy K on Dec 7, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Depth needed depends on your positioning geometry of the unit, but 3" +/- should be adequate. Care should be given to the mounting points, as there will be a lot of force concentrated there due to the pressure and mechanical leverage the units have when in the closed position
Hello - I need a "vertical lift" and am considering using this. My spice cabinet lift needs a total vertical travel of 10 to 12" downward direction - not. lift and hold, rather pull down and then push up. Has anyone used this in this vertical application ? OR do you have another recommendation ?
Mike M on Dec 23, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I used the lift as in the picture, auto lift to open and hold - pull down to close, i.e. door hinged at top, for an over refrigerator kitchen cabinet. I see no reason why it would not work well in the opposite direction though.
I have built a TV enclosure that is made out of a lighter weight pine material, it is 32 " tall 38" wide and 7" deep, I would like to add these to open the door, however I am confused on how to determine what I need. Could someone advise me on the correct version? Thanks
barry w on Aug 27, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Hi, I did purchased a pair of Lift O Mat for my TV and it work perfectly. You have to determine how high the door must lift it would be your personal desire. My cabinet was close to the ceiling so I had to make sure the door didn't hit the ceiling.
Hi I have a wall concealment cabinet that holds a couple rifles. The vertical door measures 27" tall do you think the ones that are for a door up to 24" work.?
Gary P on Aug 3, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It should work, it just depends on how heavy of a door you're using...
I have a lift up door that is 42" high and 60" wide, weighing about 35 pounds. Is there similar hardware that will work?
Mark W on Jun 21, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I think that even with one on each side, you may be pushing it. My suggestion is that (depending on where you live) you go to your closest marine hardware supplier and see what he has in stock. Boats use these frequently and most marine equipment dealers have a variety of gas springs.
I have a door that is only 8" there anything that would work with that size. it is 36.5 wide and aprox 6-10lbs in weight,,,?
Lisa P on Jun 20, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The only ones I could find was item #66621. This is an overhead bin hinge
How do you know where to mount gas springs for first time installation (not replacement)? I have a cedar storage box with a lid that weighs over 100 lbs. and is 10' x 40". I cannot lift it without some assistance.
Mel B on Jun 19, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Mel . . . These gas spring supports, even the most heavy duty, are not likely to hold your 100 pound lid open. They should help a bit with the load however. I am surprised that there is nothing in the installation instructions about hardware placement. If you look at the drawing, the lid is open to about 80 degrees. Lid side bracket attachment is down from the top about 25% of the total door height. Since the hardware has to fold into the cabinet when closed, you should be able to attach the door end, hold the door open to about 80 degrees, fully extend the movable rod in the device and determine the inside cabinet end location. Make sure the door end bracket is far enough away from the edge of the door to avoid interference but still aligns with the inside of the cabinet bulkhead when closed and that the bracket that mounts to the inside of the cabinet bulkhead is set far enough back from the front edge of the cabinet to allow the door to close completely.
I'm replacing the model BPG2810. Which one is it?
Brant S on Feb 25, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I used these liftomatic devices for my daughter's tack trunk--however, sit did not withstand the "beating" a tack trunk gets at a horseshow. I have used since then other spring loaded hinges (from rockler--I bought them at the local store) and they are far more sturdy. if you think that you need fairly heavy use or stress, do not use these devices.
