No-Mortise Bed Rail Brackets

Item #
80% of 100

At first glance, these bed rail fasteners don't look like much, but once you cinch them down, you'll see how incredibly rigid the joint is. And with one bolt holding the joint together, assembly and disassembly is fast and fool-proof. The top and bottom tabs provide lateral rigidity, and prevent rotation, while the heavy corner gussets maintain a perfect 90° angle. The M8 (5/16'') connecting bolt is held captive in the bed rail bracket, so you never have to worry about losing it. Made from 0.072 gauge zinc-plated cold-rolled steel. Includes enough brackets for one bed.

(4) Male/Female Pairs of No-Mortise Bed Rail Brackets

No-Mortise Bed Rail Bracket
Have used mortise bed rail brackets on several queen size beds that I built with good results. Thought I would try this no-mortise design to see how it compared. The installation was straight forward and fast compared to mortising. Once the brackets are positioned the rest of the installation just needs a drill and screw driver. Also used some double sided carpet taped to aid in the positioning of the brackets and make the drilling a bit easier.

The assembled bracket is quite strong and sturdy. We are pleased with the results. We recommend this rail bracket and would use this rail bracket again on the next bed project.

Woodworking Experience:
Perfect for my unique purpose
I did not use these for a bed rail. I built a couple of custom sized folding tables for craft shows. The tables needed to fold for transport, but be sturdy and stable when in use. These bed rails worked perfectly. Easy to install, they screw together quickly when on site, and disassemble quickly as well.

Woodworking Experience:
Used to make a quickly removable upper and lower hand rail for steps
I wanted to retain the direct access to the deck from the front and side of the steps for the times when I needed a ramp to load large items into and out of my cabin. Because of this, I never put up a permanent hand rail on the outside of the steps. This bracket design allowed me to build an upper and lower hand rail which is easily and quickly removed or restored with 4 screws and 1 half-inch bolt at the front post base.

Works well, installation frustrating
After getting the set installed, they work really well. I would buy them again. However, installation was a little frustrating.
Absolutely no installation instructions came with the set. It is obvious how they should go together/be installed, but it is difficult to line up the two pieces in a corner so that the resulting boards are lined up exactly as you want it. Maybe there is a trick to make it easier but I haven't discovered it yet. With the cover plate on, the piece behind that gets screwed into the board is hidden so I can't put it exactly into place. There is just enough play when pulling it off after marking things with the cover plate in place that the alignment was off enough to really frustrate me.

I have used these on several beds I've built, although I do mortise and tendon the joints these brackets assure a very sturdy structure.

I've used these successfully before on a shop-made poster bed and they've proved quite sturdy. I need a system to build a non-permanent workbench that can be assembled in place in a room with smaller doorways. I think this is just the ticket.

Do you have installation instructions? Most brackets have them. This model does not.
Rich P on Jan 15, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I do not recall that there were any instructions. my wooden side rail fit into my headboard, and then i attached the brackets afterwards.
Will this fit a 2x4 rail?

Which part is connected to the rail?
