With over six functions in one handy unit, this unique live center system provides comprehensive tailstock support for virtually any spindle turning project. It boasts triple-bearing construction for excellent durability and incredibly smooth turning, even when higher speeds or clamping pressures are required. Precision machined from the highest quality materials. Fits all lathes with a standard #2 morse taper tailstock quill.

Features:

  • Versatile - over 6 mounting options in one handy unit.
  • Morse taper allows quick-change capability for fast setups.
  • Durable, high-quality triple bearing system.
  • Fits all lathes with standard #2 morse taper (2MT) tailstock quill.
  • Includes unique stepped cone system as standard, allowing ultra fast and convenient mounting of work.
  • Can handle both heavy and delicate work, and hard and soft woods.
  • Hollow morse taper allows the user to drill through the live center—ideal for drilling cable routes for lamps and more.
  • Instruction manual included.

Mounting Options:

  • Threaded Center: Features an internal thread for mounting either a bolt or a screw (hanger bolt). Enables the center to be used to mount wooden plugs, disks or mandrels to support bowl work or spindle work. With its internal cone form, this center can also be used for quick centerless mounting of square or round spindles up to 8mm wide. The threaded center is also needed to mount the stepped cone accessory.
  • Miniature Extension Center: Designed to support thin work or small, delicate turnings.
  • 60 Degree Center: A good all-purpose center designed for a wide variety of applications. Ideal for medium to hard woods.
  • Hollow Cup Center and Point: Comes with its own demountable center point. An ideal way to hold softwoods without the risk of splitting.
  • Stepped Cone: The Stepped Cone is a quick, convenient way to mount centerless rounds up to 40mm (1-9/16'') in diameter, as well as split turning pieces, or other work without a center. Reverse mounting of cone allows wedge fit of hollowed work. Requires the threaded center to mount it on the live center.

Better turning with secure holds
The live center system is letting my wood turning evolve. I feel I have many more options for varied situations. As a beginning turner, a live center was essential. Now that I have some sawdust under my feet, the live center system is a natural next step. This workd exceptionally well paired with a

Very good design
The design is really great, as is the workmanship with one exception. The surface on the Morse taper is not very good. In fact sort of rough compared with the tail piece that came with my Rikon lathe. I'll have to polish it I assume. Is this true?

Thanks.

Would this device allow me to put a drill bit into it? So for like drilling out center holes for pens?
Louquel B on Dec 11, 2017
BEST ANSWER: No. The Live center is a must have for spindle turning of any type. I use mine in different configurations all the time. The item you need is the Tail Stock chuck. BE SURE to keep your hand on the chuck all the times you are drilling and removing from the work peace! I use a #2 Taper with the Jet mini lathe.

BEST ANSWER: If you have a #2 taper, it would.
For boring using the cup center, I'm wondering what the proper steps are for setting the location of the cup on the workpiece, after setting the point to center?
Meaning, since you have to back off the tailstock to punch out the point from the cup center, how do you mark center on the workpiece for boring?
rich g on Jul 17, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Be sure the point goes into the workpiece far enough that it leaves a ring in the wood from the piece that holds the point that is removed for boering. Realeign the tail stock with the ring imprint on the work.
