Wonderful
Amazing tool. I use it with out a handle. Not only is it very fast, I can maintain a plane because it is broad and flat. One of my 5 favorite tools. I've bought 5 or 6 over the last 30 years. Some I've worn out on sheet rock, some I've gumbed up with things like bondo, and some seem to have had legs!

Great tool
This tool is great for shaping and removing stock quickly. A "must have" tool for working thick stock.

Great tool!
I bought this tool to shape some rails on a boat that I'm building. The rails are made of Ipe and are very hard and don't plane well. I had to remove quite a bit of material and this tool can hog off a lot of material in a hurry without clogging. The fine side did a pretty good job of smoothing - just needed a quick sand with a random orbit sander to finish. I did not buy the handle - I just put on a pair of leather gloves and go to work. That allows me to quickly switch from coarse to fine.

Is this the s or the L?

BEST ANSWER: I don't know what the s or L means/ refers to. Both the Japanese rasp and saw blades are perhaps my most used hand tools. I do many installations of drawer and door hard ware,in kitchens.
