Rockler Deluxe Honing Guide and Setup Gauge

When sharpening chisels or plane irons, it's critical that the blade's primary bevel and microbevel angles are maintained. To do that, you need a reference for indexing these angles correctly and a reliable way to hold the blade while sharpening it. Our Deluxe Honing Guide and Setup Gauge satisfy both requirements simply and consistently. The precision-machined aluminum Setup Gauge is etched with clear, easy-to-read markings for registering 20°, 25°, 30° and 35° primary bevels and microbevels accurately. (Note: A microbevel is a small, slightly steeper bevel at the tip of the blade that strengthens the edge and makes it easier to hone because you're removing less material.) Simply adjust the blue stop on the Setup Gauge to match the angle you need. Then clamp your chisel or plane iron loosely between the large jaws of the Deluxe Honing Guide. Rest the front of the Honing Guide against the Gauge's crosspiece, extend the blade until it touches the stop and tighten the large, knurled knob. That's it! The Honing Guide is now precisely tuned and ready to take to your choice of abrasive for sharpening. Its oversized, 3-1/2''-long wheel rolls smoothly over any flat abrasive surface (sharpening stones, diamond plates or sandpaper) to hone a razor-sharp edge.
