Choosing the Proper Style Cam Lock

Drawers: Horizontal Cam locks are ideal for drawers. The lock mounts horizontally and when turned the locking mechanism will stop your drawer from opening. This cam lock installs in wood with a thickness up to 3/4''.

Cabinet Doors: Vertical cam Locks are ideal for Cabinets and other doors with a thickness up to 3/4''. Once installed the vertical cam lock will hold the closed when used on a single door application with a frame cabinet style.

Doors with a thickness greater than 3/4'': the Universal cam body works for projects that have a thickness of 3/4" to 1-3/8" thick.

Double Doors: the Double Door Standard Cam Locks or the Double Door Offset Cam Locks will work for cabinets where you want to stop both doors from opening. One leg/arm stops the first door from opening by locking behind the frame of the cabinet and the other arm stops the second door from opening.

My current project is a glass doored long gun case, which require one lock in the glass door an another in a small ammo storage door in the base of the case.

lock shaft too large
Directions would be very helpful. You need to drill an 11/16 hole on your door frame for the lock. But then the Bezel does not fit. So then you drill a 3/4 hole. Everything fits but on the back side there is a gap. I suppose I could have drilled a 23/32 hole, but I didn't have that size drill bit. Hence, directions would be nice in the catalog and with the lock set.

Cam Locks installed easily
I found it relatively easy to get these cam locks installed. I used them on single and double doors, and drawers. The snap in locks just pressed into place.

Works well, but does not cover the distance when the cabinet door closes on 1 by material. I had to use a drill to mill a groove in the stanchion. I got the universal kit.

Easy to install and very smooth operation. Overall a quality product. The only issues I had was finding the proper diameter for the hole during installation. It was not in the instructions nor anything I could find at the web site. I did get a quick response from Rockler via email with the correct diameter.

Product seems to work well. Since there were no instructions, I had to take the time to figure out how to install lock cylinder, then mount latch assemble. I was disappointed that it did not come with any screws to mount it.

BEST ANSWER: The distance between the mount holes is 1-1/4" center to center
Are there installation specs available for the different lockset bodies? Rockler is good about posting the directions/specs, so you know what will fit, but don't see that here. Installing locks in two situations: 1. Overlay 3/4" cabinet door 2. Flush, in face frame drawer.

I have a two inch door frame, with 1/2 inch over lay, on 3/4 inch cabinet frame. Would like the lock to latch behind cabinet frame. Which one will work?
Richard N on May 10, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I have used this type of cam lock in the past in the situation you're describing. I think you'll need a cam that has an offset in it . See the universal cam 47287 or 35982.
