Good gear, poor instructions
This kit works as advertised. Read one of the reviews that said you had to drill and tap the holes for mounting and then it was an easy job. That info should have been in the kit. I would recommend this to friends but make sure they are informed about the mounting process.

Google and YouTube are your friends
Yes, the Ikea style instructions suck. No, you do not need to tap the holes you drill in the flat track. That’s what the rectangular nuts included in the kit are for. If you’re having a hard time with installing these, which work great BTW, google “how to install soft close barn door hardware” and watch one of several videos on the subject.
Enjoy!

Instructions?
These soft-closers work very nicely w/ really smooth action. Door does require some effort to 'un-lock' but the anti-jump discs that come with the rail hardware will prevent derailment. My only complaint is the lack of instructions - only a couple of diagrams which provided NO measurements. For the machine screws provided in the kit to mount the closers, you will need to drill 1/8" holes through your rail, then thread them with a 4mm metric tap. One closer goes between the first two rail bolts on the left side, and the other between the last two mounting bolts on the right. The height position on the back of the rail depends on the type of roller bracket style you get, and it depends on the distance between the bottom of the rail and the top of the door. Beware - may require some reverse engineering, but they work great to prevent door slamming and pinched fingers.

Terrible
I thought these would be so nice be absolutely terrible instructions, rather NO INSTRUCTIONS at all.. and the guys at Rockler Wood Working no help either,,did not know a thing. I saw others out there that used lower track clips to install with set screws. These apparently require drilling through thick track metal and tapping holes? I am taking mine back. I do NOT recommend this brand name soft closer.

Great idea but.....
They receive the door well but the tention to pull the door is so strong it can derail the rollers. Sadly there is no way to change the tention.

Barn doors are to be installed in a house with boys. Soft close seemed the only choice.

Can two of these provide soft close at open position and closed position of one large door?
Jerry P on May 3, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes, a pair of these provides the soft close function at both ends of the door's travel. I mounted them on a 36 inch door and they work great. My only concern would be what you mean by a large door, more precisely, how heavy is the door? I don't know what the limitations of the mechanism are. Rockler should be able to provide that information.
Is this exterior rated?
Ant R on Mar 31, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I would so no. It is not a sealed mechanism. While it doesn't say one way or the other, just from observing I would say no.
Does this show from the outside, or install behind the rail?
Dawne H on Oct 19, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Behind the rail.
