Takes error-prone calculations out of the process of miter cuts to ensure perfect miter joints every time! Easy-to-use tool has two scales: red scale and arrow show the angle for a miter joint, while the black arrow and scale provide the angle to fit a single workpiece to an angle. Simply set your miter saw to the angle that you read. Upside down or backwards, the reading is always correct. Durable aluminum with Teflon™ O-ring for smooth and positive operation.

Wish I bought one of these 20 years ago
It makes figuring miter cuts on trim less of a guessing game. I originally ordered the poly version of this from Rockler, but the markings for the angles were offset making it useless. I returned it to my Rockler store without a problem and purchased the aluminum from the store.

Woodworking Experience:
I'm building an oak TV cabinet...
I'm building an oak TV cabinet with multiple angles both in the cabinet and trim, after reviewing the most recent catalog I decided to order this tool which I received today. It's perfect for this project with it's 2 1/2 inch dia. dial it is very easy to read. I continue to be very pleased with the products provided by Rockler.

Great tool to determine wall angles....
Great tool to determine wall angles. It made cutting my crown a breeze. It takes the guesswork out of figuring angles for my miter saw.

Woodworking Experience:
Starrett protractor
Protractor is accurate and easy to use due to the scale read out showing the split of angle which expedites the use of this protractor

Woodworking Experience:
I think this is a quality...
I think this is a quality tool that has been useful and accurate. While the single cut scale is in 2 degree graduations, the miter red scale is in 1 degree graduations. Tool feels solid, and has smooth action. For super precision work, you may want to use a digital angle finder that has a resolution of a tenth of a degree, but for molding this works great.

I purchased this product for woodworking...
I purchased this product for woodworking mainly because I thought the Starrett name, and the cost, insured accuracy. I am a toolmaker with over 30 years experience, so I understand angles and tools that measure them. I may be a bit demanding, but I think I'm reasonable, given the price. The first thing I noticed when I measured an angle was that the miter cut reading was not exactly half of the single cut reading, and is consistently off by about a half a degree. If I measure a wall corner angle of exactly 45 degrees, the miter cut pointer indicates 22 degrees, not 22.5 degrees, which would be correct. I tested the protractor with precision angle blocks and found the single cut reading to have an error of about a quarter of a degree, so even that reading isn't accurate. Also, graduations are in two-degree increments, so it's up to you to interprete odd degrees and portions of a degree between the lines. All this may be OK for some people, and if I'd paid only $15 dollars for it, I'd not be so disappointed, but for what I paid for it, it does not meet my expectations. I'm returning it tomorrow.

Are the markings engraved or is it a sticker?
Jason P on Apr 15, 2017
BEST ANSWER: They are engraved. Spend the extra money for the aluminum version. I originally purchased the plastic one and the markings were offset making the tool useless.
