The hinge worked fine on my blanket chest. I like that it locks in the open position. Easy to install with the directions.

Perfect for Large Chest or Trunk
Built a large storage chest out of 3/4 birch plywood to store patio furniture seat cushions. The lid is 23 x 52 and weighs approx 20 pounds or so. I used four of these hinges and they work as described...lid is securely held open with no slop, and there's no reason to worry about it falling closed when in use. Need to be careful when closing, though, since there isn't a soft-close feature. To make installation easier, I made two jigs based on the provided dimensions, one for the cabinet and one for the lid. I'd definitely recommend these hinges.Write your review here. The drawing within the directions was...
The drawing within the directions was good. However, the text explaining installation was terrible. Also, the screws assumed a 3/4" top and back of chest.

something not right about the hinge design.
i bought these for a sweater box made from 3/4 inch stock. the spec sheet say the hinges are designed for that thickness; from my experience that seems not to be the case. i installed the hinges in four different positions and still wasn’t able to get the lid to sit flush on the box—there was something slightly off about the hinge itself that prevented the lid from sitting properly. i eventually had to route shallow mortises in the lid in order to recess the hinge mounts, so the lid would sit flush and still be able to open. i’d say i wasted a good three hours on an install that should have taken 20 minutes.

These may work well if you...
These may work well if you are building a chest or bin of very small size. With a 22" x 48" lid they would not snap closed nor stay open. Also, the hardware holes assume you are only going to use the provided screws. If you want a bolt-through mount, they will hit the mechanism on the inside. .

Can you tell us how much weight a pair of these hinges can handle? Or a calculation on how many hinges per lid based on size/weight of lid? thanks

BEST ANSWER: I installed 4 hinges on a birch plywood lid that was 72"x 16"x 3/4". I didn't weight it but I would say approximately 15lbs.
Will this allow the lid to close slowly on when pushed in motion?
Smith B on May 24, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I used these as my hinges. I used them in conjunction with the soft down lid support item 69732. The lid closes very softly. I used this combination on a toy box and did not want any little fingers smashed. The soft close lid support has to be installed exactly according to directions or it will not work properly.

Hope this helps
Can this item be used on plastic? Also, does the hinge separate in need to remove lid?
Deborah R on Apr 16, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I don't know about plastic. It does not separate to remove the lid.
