Woodworking Experience:
Worked perfectly
Lots of work involved, especially for an inside mount but well worth it in the end. The online design tool produced the drawing and all measurements. I started using an old down-spiral bit but when it started burning the wood, I ordered a new up-spiral bit to finish the mortises. I used a Freud 1/8" radius beadboard bit to decorate the stiles.

Woodworking Experience:
Works great
The only problem I have is with my Bosch quick change adapter not permitting me to see where I am on the stile. I should of used a aftermarket base. I did cut my template by mistake and ordered another (my bad not the templates fault)

An Amazing Tool
This jig is amazing and easy to use. It is life saver if you are building a 1-1/4 Fix Louver door or shutter. As long as you learn the basic about this jig, you can build doors and shutters of any height without using Rockler's Online Calculator. I would say to all those cabinet and woodwork builders, this is the jig to have in your shop if you are into building 1-1/4 louver doors or shutters.

Woodworking Experience:
It worked great.
I used this to make some 95 inch high shutter doors for a pantry cabinet for the cabinet shop I own. . It worked well. The sizes for the rails and stiles didn't quite work so I changed them from the online quote. But it worked as a starting point. I did have to route each louvre tenon twice due to accumulated dust and chips getting between jig and router bit guide.

I made 2 jigs, though not perfect they worked. Now they want 10 more sets. This looks like it will speed up the process in these future builds.

Pricing out 8-10 windows was incredibly expensive from my local lumber yard $150-200/window. The jig pays for itself after the first window that I can make my own for $50/window.

What is the minimum thickness of the rails and stills that you can use?
Steven B on Jan 11, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I used 5/4 pine (actual 1&1/8) and it worked well. There was some excess available so 7/8 actual would Probably be ok but it wouldn't leave much room for error.
Can 1/8" x 1" fixed shutters be made with a jig?
A shopper on Apr 20, 2015
BEST ANSWER: No. If it is anything other than the 1 1/4 inch then the holes for the lovers will not be centered on the uprights.
The plans show a 3/16" rabbit on the rails and looks like it is half the rail thickness is that correct?
Dean M on Jul 23, 2018
What bit is used to round over 1 1/4 fixed slats ?
Dean M on Feb 1, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Slats are 1 1/4 wide by 1/4 it would be a 1/8 inch round over to get 1/4 thick slat.
Has anyone made their own louvers? Is it hard? I don't want to use basswood and the wood I want is only available in 3/4" stock.
Glenn G on Jul 5, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I used 2x4 KDAT pine ripped and planned to 1/4" and cut to 1 1 /4" then used a round over bit on the sides. You need to cut 3 /4 standing on edge that requires a band of table saw with a fence
The shutter wizard is great if the sizes provided work for your project. Changing the rail width isn't a problem but what if you want to vary the dimension on the stiles or even add a center stile, what then?
Alan D on Jul 9, 2016
BEST ANSWER: As far as adding a center stile, shouldn't be a problem at all. You just treat it (rout the pattern) as if one side was the second stile of an ordinary shutter and the other side was the first stile of an ordinary shutter. Just make sure to keep the same line- not to move the pattern up or down. As for the dimentions of the stiles, I'm not sure what you mean by that. You should be able to make it whatever dimentions you need it to be and rout the pattern to wherever it suits it best.
I’d like to stain/paint the completed shutters with hvlp sprayer. Can I wait until assembled or would finishing need to be done before assembly?
E E on Feb 23, 2020
BEST ANSWER: I sprayed mine with paint after finishing. It worked fine.
I want to make some Bahama shutters but my windows are quite long and narrow. Would this still work for 72" long windows?
ronny r on Mar 16, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Yes. I would have ample brass router guards (i used 4 for 8 80" shutters) for the router bit as they wear down quick and chew into the plastic jig. Depending how many it may be good to habe a spare jig as my bit damaged the first one
1 1/4 fixed shutter 3/16 rabbit looks like it goes 1/2 the thickness of the rail is that correct ?
Dean M on Jul 21, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I have made several 1 1/4" fixed shutters using the Rockler Jig. And yes I set the plunge router depth to about 1/2 the rail depth. More importantly is to cut the shutters a little short to allow for expansion and ease of assembly. Good luck.
