This collet reducer allows you to use 8mm shank router bits with your 1/2" collet. The collet adapter slips into your existing 1/2" collet, and the router bit is then inserted into the adapter. The expansion slot ensures a tight grip on the router bit shank. With the ability to use 8mm shank router bits, you'll have access to a wider bit selection. 8mm shanks are also slightly thicker than 1/4" shanks, for better stability.
