Great gauge
This tool is much easier to use and more accurate than most other contour gauges I have used.

I previously used a metal Contour Gage which did not work well most of the time, this works great and is much easier to use.

A little coarse due to thickness of the plastic strips but works pretty well.

10 inch contour gauge
Functional and reasonably effective tool. I was able to perform the task I wanted, but not without difficulty. The "pins" are made of plastic, they were long enough, and frequent enough to be none marring, and give adequate detail.

These are the limitations experienced. Oddly, it wasn't long enough. 10 inches is longer than most gauges but not for my job.- The project required mounting and object to lap siding. The object was 12 inches long, a 13 inch contour gauge have simplified things greatly.

Another concern was the inability to lock the "pins" in place once a template is made. While standing on a ladder, and never having enough hands, it would have been nice to engage a simple locking mechanism. Thankfully, the pins don't readily move, but an inadvertent bump or a misstep when rechecking the contour can distort the pin position.

The last bone of contention is the instructions were marginal. It is rather straight forward to use, but you must remember you are creating a contour that is a "negative" of the object or a "positive" that replicates the object's shape.

I have to agree with the...
I have to agree with the other reviews in that it does need some sort of locking device to hold the pins in place. Works pretty well for my application which was finding the contour on the siding of my older rv. You have to be careful when tracing the outline so the pins dont move out of whack. All in all, very nice unit, very fast service.

10 inch contour gauge
I can make it work for what I bought it for but I wish someone would make a 16 Inch version for larger pieces.

Contour gauge
The width of the gauge severely limits it's usefulness. I bought it when installing flooring and the very limited depth range (about 2+ inches) made it much less than useful. I am a Master Carpenter (Red Seal) from Canada and miss my old metal gauge from years ago.

You left off the only important spec, the depth. Reviews list it as 2+ inches, 1 13/4, 1.25", and "not much." What is it?
dASDADSASD on Jul 21, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Since that is an important spec. for you, let me give you measurement with my Starrett caliper.
Depth- trial 1) 1.2500 inches, trial 2) 1.2505 inches, trial 3) 1.2490 inches. I hope this answers your question.
