Obtain the perfect mandrel length for any pen kit. Just loosen the locking collar and adjust the mandrel as needed - no more hassling with spacers. Turn two barrels at once, or single barrels up to 6'' long. Consult your lathe's instruction manual to determine the appropriate MT (morse taper) size. 7mm shaft. This mandrel is also available with a #2 Morse Taper (#48377, sold separately).

Works as expected
Only way to improve it would be to throw in a small flat wrench to use tightening it, since you do need two. Otherwise does what it should.

Replacement for fixed length mandrel
I had to replace my old fixed length mandrel. It had finally worn out. When looking for a new mandrel, I liked the feature of adjustable length. This meant that I could turn blanks of different lengths without having to use multiple bushings to shim blank. I will buy an adjustable mandrel again.

It works fine for I what I am doing. I just turned a couple of pens and it worked fine. I have small problem when turning the 3/8" blank for the bigger pen tube. I solved the problem by using two small washers filed down to the diameter of the pen tube and placing it in front of the plastic bushing to prevent the blank from pushing into the mandrel. It worked fine.

This makes building pens much easier.
I've been building pens for about a year now and this is much better than the mandrel without the adjustment.

I decided to get the adjustable mandrel and I'm glad I did. It fit my lathe perfectly and was easy to set up with the slimline kit and bushings.

Works fine
Arrived slightly bent, not so bad that I couldn't turn a pen, also had to slightly sand the while mandrel with 1200 grit to allow the pen tubes and bushings to slide on properly. Packaging was fine, unsure of why it arrived slightly bent, may want to look into other ways of packaging.

BEST ANSWER: Yes
what is the size of the locking collar threads? Can I buy replacements?
DC C on Nov 26, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The threads are 3/4-10, but I do not know if you can buy replacements. I would suspect the only one that could tell you that is the manufacturer and there is no manufacturer shown on mine. You would have to contact Rockler tech support and see what they could tell you.
Is there a bushing set available for mounting game call blanks?
