This relief cutter provides a safe, economical way to fit flat and raised panels into the 1/4" groove of cope and stick frames. For flat panels, making a relief cut means you don't have to plane your panels down to 1/4", meaning less wasted wood, less wear and tear, and a far more stable panel. The same goes for raised panels. Instead of planing off the back side, you can leave the panel at 3/4" thick and use the Back Cutter to fit the panel into the groove.
