Makes a relief cut on the back side of a flat or raised panel so it fits into the groove of your door frame.

This relief cutter provides a safe, economical way to fit flat and raised panels into the 1/4" groove of cope and stick frames. For flat panels, making a relief cut means you don't have to plane your panels down to 1/4", meaning less wasted wood, less wear and tear, and a far more stable panel. The same goes for raised panels. Instead of planing off the back side, you can leave the panel at 3/4" thick and use the Back Cutter to fit the panel into the groove.

I'm matching some work that was done in my house years ago, essentially recreating some moulding that was used that is not available anymore. This bit, with a bit of engineering magic, will create the closest profile to what I have. Wish me good luck!!

Can I use this bit with a trim router? to add detail to existing kitchen drawers about 3/4 inch thickness?
Candice K on Jun 16, 2016
BEST ANSWER: No. it's way too large a diameter for a trim router. A mid size router will be fine. However this is a back cutter for center panels in cabinet doors, not an edge detail bit
What is the distance from the bearing face to the outside edge of the cutter?
Mark D on Jul 25, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I just measured mine with a digital calipers and get 5/8" from the bearing face to the edge of one of the blades.
