Rockler Router Bit Storage Inserts, 10-Pack

Let's face it, most wood shops suffer from a shortage of space on tabletops and benchtops. That's why we like to take advantage of all the wall space we can. Our Router Bit Storage Inserts let you do just that. They are made from a durable molded polyethylene that holds the shanks snugly enough that they won't fall out when stored on the wall. Wall storage also means that dust won't collect between the bits. Of course, you can use the same inserts for horizontal storage in a drawer or on a shelf—the choice is yours. Each insert is stepped to hold both 1/4'' and 1/2'' shanks, providing flexibility when you need to rearrange or add a new bit to your collection. It's a neat, clean storage solution that requires a minimum of materials and is easily customized.

Features:

  • Holds shanks snugly enough for vertical or horizontal storage—just drill a 5/8'' hole and push in the insert
  • Inserts are stepped to hold both 1/4'' and 1/2'' shank router bits, or 1/2'' shank Forstner bits
  • Polyethylene material helps keep out moisture to prevent rust
  • Ribbed exterior keeps insert firmly in place when removing bit

Perfect tool protection
Biggest problem with router bits has been how to store them safely. I now have 1.5" x 1.5" or 3" x 3" blocks of wood with these inserts for the bits to stand in and I can protect the carbide blade edges. I have spent a lot on my router bits to not try to protect them

ROUTER BIT STORAGE
Bought these router inserts on sale, they are a perfect addition
to my Rockler router table. Router bits are easy to remove and insert due to the holes being the right size diameter. And organized so they are not touching each other and can accept
1/4" and 1/2" shanks. Kudo's to the designers at Rockler.

Nice to store bits
I have several bits that came with boxing which has since disappeared. Having this to store the bits is great. Keeps them from banging into each other thus dulling the bits.

Works great with hex shank drive bits
I have made a block that hangs on my bench pegboard that I can grab and go to put the most used hex drive bits into. They hold well because of the way the insert is molded.

Will buy more.

Excellent Product
Works perfect for storing bits in a draw application. I purchased a couple of packages just to see how they would work and I was sold as soon as I mounted them in my application.

I bought a 10-pack of these to try out and was so impressed with how well they kept the bits organized and stopped them from hitting each other and damaging the carbide, that I've bought two more packages to handle the rest of my bits. I've drilled holes to mount them into 3/4" plywood plates that can be removed easily from the drawers of my router table for easy access.

How many 1/2" bit inserts are in a pack? Will Rockler offer "1/2" bit inserts only" or "1/4" bit inserts only" packs in the future?
Gabriel R on Jan 14, 2018
BEST ANSWER: All inserts will accommodate 1/2" bits. They are able to fit both sizes of bit. As to the second question, I doubt Rockler will change the product offering since the current design fits both sizes.
Have the foam holders - bits too tight - do these Rockler bit inserts grab the shank tightly or are the bits easily removed (plan horizontal storage) - thanks?
G I on Apr 2, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I am very happy with these inserts. Very light effort to remove the bits but they hold them tight enough that they are secure.
What is the outside diameter of the top lip and there a recommended clearance between the inserts
?
Frank L on Sep 3, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Diam. is 15/16"; Drill 5/8" holes and push the inserts into it; they work great. I made a draw for my router table bits, I used variable spacing between staggered rows. started with 1" spacing of rows and 2"between holes, then a few rows at 1 1/4" and 1 1/2", then 2" and 2 1/2" IMG_9209.jpg

What storage tray would U recommend for the bit inserts?
Larry H on Aug 17, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I built 2 trays and a box with a lid for them to sit in. Both trays are 16" x 12" x 3/4". In one I tray I drilled 60 holes, 6 rows of 10 each centered on a grid spaced 1 1/2" apart. The other try has 20 holes, 4 rows of 5 centered on a 2" grid to one side. On that other side of that tray I also routed out a 3" x 10" by 3/8" deep sections to hold hex keys and spare bearings. These inserts are great, they hold onto the bit shaft without it being too tight to remove.
What is the depth of the 1/2" portion of the storage insert?
Michael S on Mar 4, 2018
BEST ANSWER: 0.435” at the 1/2” portion.

Does it work for 6mm bit?
Claude on Apr 20, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I don’t have any router bits with a 6mm shank but all the 1/4” shank router bits work very well with these inserts.
