Freud® LU79R Thin Kerf Ultimate Plywood & Melamine Saw Blades

Item #
GRP16555_1
Rating:
100% of 100

Using advanced technology, Freud developed the LU79 thin kerf line of saw blades that features laser-cut, anti-vibration slots that practically eliminate the vibrations that resonate in standard blades. This blade provides flawless, chip-free edges in veneered plywoods, fine moldings, melamine, laminates, and crosscuts in solid woods. The combination of Hi-ATB tooth design and anti-vibration slots makes these thin kerf blades the ultimate finish blades. The result is a cut so smooth it eliminates the need for a stabilizer or a scoring blade!

Features:
 • The Perma-SHIELD® coating covers the blade plate and cutting edge in a protective layer, reducing heat build-up
 • Perma-SHIELD® blades resist binding in large volume cutting, reducing subsequent blade warp. The coating lubricates the blade, allowing it to spin freely, and eliminates pitch and debris build-up on the blade
 • High Alternate Top Bevel (Hi-ATB) tooth design produces splinter-free cuts
 • Laser-cut anti-vibration slots drastically reduce vibration and sideways movement in the cut extending blade life and giving a crisp, splinter-free flawless finish
 • Perma-SHIELD® Non-Stick Coating is a state-of-the-art coating formulation that is superior to any today, and will withstand the toughest woodworking applications. Like Silver I.C.E.™, Perma-SHIELD® eliminates pitch and debris build-up reducing down time for cleaning
 • Features Ti-Co™ Hi-Density Carbide Crosscutting Blend for maximum performance
 • Anti-vibration design
 • Ships directly from the manufacturer.
 • Must be shipped within 48 Contiguous United States.

Great blade
I bought this blade specifically for cutting 3/4" A-C Plywood and (later) 1/4, 1/2, and 3/4" Baltic Birch Plywood. I have about one hour (actual) use on the blade and I am very impressed both with the cut and retained sharpness. I believe this is a great product at a competitive price.

I need to cut some 1/4" panel that cost me $94 a sheet. I can't afford to have tear out on my cross cuts.

Freud makes a very good saw blade. I have several different blades and have had no problem with them. I had a Stack Dado blade that some of the carbide teeth broke off in the first 4 ft. of board. I contacted Freud and they sent a new one with no questions asked. Very good company.

This blade got a great review in either Woodsmith or Finewoodworking, so I got one for my Skill saw. This blade does everything they said. I crosscut some import plywood and the cut was perfect - no tear out and the cut was very smooth. I also used this blade to cut the edging from a dining table I was rebuilding and the cut was glue up ready.

I bought a 10" version of this blade for the table saw and have had the same great results.

Will this Freud blade fit on a Jet 10 inch jobsite table saw?
Eric R on Nov 7, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I don't know that saw, but I've found every 10" blade to fit all 10" saws. I think they're all pretty standard, and if I recall, all have the same arbor diameter. I'd think your saw is no different just make sure the arbor diameter of your saw is the same as this....double check it but I THINK they're all pretty much 5/8"
Will the blade fit a kapex miter saw?
Dave L on Sep 20, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I have no idea. I do not know what a kapex miter saw is. I bought this 7 1/4 inch blade to fit a normal hand held circular saw and it works fine.
Does this blade work well cutting plexiglas?
Frank B on Jan 5, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I recently use this blade to cut plexiglass and other plastics used in displays for our Sun City Veterans
Club Displays highlighting the Vietnam War. The blade did a wonderful job providing an excellent cut of
various plastics and well as ripping of white board (masonite backed) used in the displays.
Will this fit any 7 1/4" circular saw (e.g. Ryobi, Skil, etc.)(i.e. punch out arbor)?
Alfetta159 on Nov 24, 2016
BEST ANSWER: No. its a 10" blade.
If you need a fine cutting blade, the freud diablo 7-1/4" 40 tooth blade is a great option. It does. Kt have a thick blade body so be sure to have "meat" on both sides of the blade
