Hafele Ironfix®Shelf-Mounted Ironing Board

Item #
98% of 100

The Ironfix® ironing board from Hafele installs directly onto a fixed closet shelf, where it's needed most for smoothing out wrinkles before hanging shirts, or catching the few that slipped by as you get dressed. Folded up, the board fits into a compact 14"D x 24"W x 6"H space. It slides out on a unique slide, unfolds, and rotates 180° with seven pre-set positions, allowing access from every angle. Due to the absence of ball bearing slides, clothing remains free from grease or pinch point damage. Mechanism is made from epoxy-coated steel.

Sewing room dream come true!
I am a seamstress and I do a lot of ironing when I sew. We just converted a garage workshop into a sewing studio. This was the perfect solution as to where to put the ironing board! The only negative feedback I can report is that the ironing cover is not of a good is more like the ones that you might find in the dollar stores. For the price of this product, I expected a better cover. I attached a pressing mat underneath and that seems to be a better ironing surface.

Woodworking Experience:
This is a very well-made product! It's heavy and does needs to be installed on a well secured platform.

Great product, but this product is too heavy for the closet organization system that we currently have.

Love this product
I installed this and it's great! Fits very nice inside of a 14x24 melamine unit from Organized Living. I've already purchased 2 more and am really going to try to incorporate these into our designs. I used a drop down drawer front and it flows very nicely.
Fits nicely inside of a 14x24" unit with fold down drawer front

I saw this item in a home at the Parade of Homes last month and it was really cool. As we're in the process of building our new home, we wanted to make this part of ours, and Rockler had the best deal by far anywhere.

Does the ironing board come with a shelf front (that folds down)? If so, what color? I assumed no, but the diagram looks as if there might be one. Thank you.
Stephanie B on Mar 2, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The white sliding "tray" is the mechanism that the ironing board is mounted to, so it slides in and out like a drawer. we mounted ours on a open shelf...I didn't care if it was visible when not in use. You also could hinge a drawer front to drop down as pictured here. The ironing board was easy to install, and we LOVE it! When we move to our next house this summer, I will add another!
Can this be mounted on the wall?
Deborah B on Sep 1, 2017
BEST ANSWER: it would depend on how. The unit itself is very heavy. And it adjusts in many different ways, which makes it great to use. But I think it would be awkward to hang on the wall as it designed to store flat. So, if you are mounting a permanent shelf to the wall for the ironing board to sit on that would be ok. But if it is to be set up on a hinged shelf, I am not certain that would work. Mine is set up like in the picture and it works great.
Can you install this into a top drawer where there is a countertop above?
A shopper on Jul 9, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The ironing board is intended to mount on a shelf, not in a drawer. It comes with its own slide mechanism which also provides a swivel function. It could not go inside a drwaer since the sides of the drawer would impede the opening and swivel function.

The unit must also be secured to a stable base since it is subjected to force when in use. The force comes from both the weight of the extended unit and the pressure applied while ironing. In my experience, the slides of a typical drawer will not handle this.

If you removed the drawer, installed a solid wood bottom and had enough clearance above then this cold go under a countertop.
Can this be mounted underneath a shelf?
Lori D on Jan 17, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes. Mine is under a shelf. Just make sure you have enough room to fully extend the track so the board can fold to stow. Best ironing board EVER. Worth every penny.
I have a 16" wide solid shelf to install this on. Will it fit? Thanks.
mhall on Sep 3, 2015
BEST ANSWER: We have a shelf that's 22" wide and 14 1/2" deep. with the ironing board folded in half and pivoted parallel to the wall, it fits nicely without protruding from the shelf. If your shelf is 16" wide, it will fit perpendicular to the wall, but may protrude past the front edge of the shelf if the shelf depth is less than 21"
The interior of my cabinet is 20.75 inches including door clearance. My understanding is this will fit in 20.4 inches from looking at the product specs. Can you please confirm? Thanks.
Lynn R on Apr 15, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I am uncertain which dimension you are referring to as 20.75 inches.

The ironing board assembly requires a space 14 inches deep by 24 inches wide and 6 inches high.
How do you attach the two front screws in the white sliding tray? Is it just me but I don't seem to be able to get at the holes.
Pete T on Oct 22, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The builder who built our house installed our ironing board, but as I look at it, I see that he anchored the sliding tray from the under side of the shelf. The screws are installed through the shelf from the under side and threaded through the tray above.
I hope this helps.
If my shelf is deeper than it is wide, will it work that way (and then swivel after I pull it out). Specifically, if instead of being 21" wide and 14" deep, my shelf is 14" wide and 21" deep (it's in a cabinet). Will that work?
Charlotte B on Nov 29, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Based on my installed unit, yes. You can fold it and slide in into the retracted position without turning it 90 degrees.
Can the board slide into the shelf while in the open position? If so, what is the height of the board while open? Will it fit in a 4 1/2" shelf if left unfolded?
Allison M on Apr 18, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Our board will slide in the open position.
The height of the board in the open position is 3 1/4" while in the open position.
It is just under 4 1/2" in closed position, but should fit in 4 1/2" if left unfolded.
