I am very pleased with this product. It does not leave an oily residue on my tools or the hone. It also doesn't promote rust.

Honing oil
I did not see much difference in this product and water. Maybe I was using the wrong sharpening stones?

NOT AN OIL. NOT AN OIL SUBSTITUTE.
This is NOT a honing OIL but a water-based fluid. If you need honing OIL, this will not work for lower grit stones and you’ll end up clogging or ruining your stone. This might work with a DMT Eze Lap, but if you’re using stones meant for oil, DO NOT BUY.

Rockler, please correct your listing of this item. IT IS NOT AN OIL.

Evaporated
After leaving it for a month or so, I came back to the bottle and it was evaporated. Just a nasty residue at the bottom of the bottle.

how often and how many drops of oil does one use when doing chisels?
Wally E on May 21, 2015
BEST ANSWER: (1) That depends in part on how porous the stone is that you're using. The more porous, the more oil.
(2) Counting the number of drops won't help you. Apply drops until you have a little pool on the stone. Work in in a spiral motions, working toward you on the liquid until you have reached the near end of the pool of oil. Repeat the process until the pool has disappeared. Then apply some more.
(3) When the pool becomes dark and viscous, wipe the stone clean and start a new pool.
