When not in use the 6" lives in my shop apron. The 12" and 18" in the drawer with my other layout and measuring apparatus. Only issue I had was the hook on the 18" was loose yet the tiny screw was very tight. Rockler sent me out a replacement as soon as I called them and the new one was fine.
I always thought I would like to have one, but didn't want to spend the money for something I might not use very much. Now that I have one, I use it quite often and am glad I did spend the money. I bought the 12" rule. I am also impressed with the quality.
I have two of the12" iGaging Stainless Steel hook rules. They are well made, thick satin finished stainless steel construction. The lettering is finely done, and the "end hook" can be removed, or installed on the opposite side Single screw attachment. Both sides of the rules are graduated at different resolution levels, i.e. 1/8", 1/16", 1/32" and 1/64" markings. Overall I was impressed with the quality of these rules.
I like the T-bar feature, so you can get a very accurate measurement, My only complaint is that the markings are light, and difficult to see under my harsh LED shop lighting, since the light reflects off the metal ruler unless you rotate it to a different position.
I usually wouldn't purchase iGaging products as I've been burned by a couple bad items, but this one was recommended and it works fine -- no parts to break, no digital readouts to go bad, etc. I'm happy with it. I measure and mark very small pieces (1/4"x1/4" and 1/2"x1/2") and need it to be accurate and it seems to be.
I removed the hook and turned the blade over. The end of the rule was not machined squarely, so it was difficult to put the screw back in. When I reversed the process, the threads were stripped on the screw. The screw should be hardened steel, but obviously it's not. It's supposed to be reversible, but fails in that area. I won't be buying anymore Igage products, rather pay more for Starret.
Very nice tool. Has good heavy feel and is well made. However the graduations are very hard to read because they are so light. iGauging should make an effort to darken the graduations as it would vastly improve this tool.
First need my glasses on this one compared to a standard ruler or tape measure. Worst part is it is not labeled as a standard ruler or tape measure. 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 So if you dont use it much you may have to stop and think. Always thought I would like one. Had to waste 26.00 to find out I did not.
