Fillet knife
Roughed out on belt sander. No issues with heat sensitivity. Final shaping with 600 then 1500. Finish is Tung Oil. Very pleased with this product.

The scales were a bit thicker than I would have liked. I ended up cutting them almost in half once I saw how large they made the knife handle when both were attached. The figure came out well when finished.

Really like the effect even with only an oil finish. Consider using a planer to slim these down prior to assembly; ideally one could order a choice of thicknesses for the scales.

How do you finish the walnut scales?

BEST ANSWER: I used the scales for gun grips. Once they are shaped, sanded and drilled I use Birchwood Casey TRU-OIL (linseed oil base) or Formbsy's Tung Oil. Either product will seal the wood and give it a sheen. Truoil is shiner and may be matted with Scotch Bright. Tung oil gives a moisture proof finish.
