Ziricote Knife Scales

Though heavy and dense, ziricote machines beautifully, and its weight adds a substantial feel to your knife handles. It boasts excellent durability and natural resistance to decay. With it's striking walnut-toned color, patterned grain, fine texture and natural luster, it makes a standout choice to complement your best blades.

Nice knife scale
It would be nice if they where thinner so you would not have to hog off as much wood. Looks nice when finished.

Not the best choice
Wood was exceptionally hard. Sanding it was more of a chore than expected. Used 4 spindle sander rolls to remove a small amount of material around the tang and rounding the edges. After that, hand sanding the grip and feel of the handle took hours. The color variation in the wood almost disappeared as soon as I added a little protective oil to it. The handle looked black until you held it in the sun and then you could see a little bit of dark brown too.
