Fantastic bit.
Needed to replace hinges on 19 doors, this bit allowed me to drill holes without burning the wood or burning up the bit.

Unfortunately I purchased the non-carbide version first - it was a waste of money. But the carbide bit cuts quickly and cleanly. I've just plowed through a kitchen-full of doors and it's still sharp.

Carbide bit, worth it
After reading reviews of standard bit being dull after half dozen holes, ordered the carbide bit. No regrets. We have drilled several sets of European hinges and large chips still flying. I was concerned about the length of the bit but it has been non-issue and actually made job easier with drill press. Happy so far!

For drilling panel door hidden hinges
This works great for the jig I purchased from Rockler many years ago. The old one was not carbide. It had been sharpened a few times and now needed to be replaced.

Can't get a long shaft forstner bit at our local lumber stores. I recently updated my in-laws kitchen cabinet doors, and I needed this for your plunge device rockler sells. I had to drill about 100- 35mm hinge holes. Bit held up fantastic!

Does this bit have a center point that drills deeper than the overall drill depth? I need to drill completely flat bottom holes with no center hole that is deeper.
Jesse on May 23, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It has a center point, but it is very short. Designed for cabinet doors.
