Mahogany Crotch veneers can add a dramatic appearance to any woodworking project. The rich natural patterns and colors of the wood make it very popular and the sequence matched sheets in a 4 way pack allow you to create an intense visual impact. The stunningly patterned wood veneer is neatly packed in a 4 square foot hobby pack with straight, parallel edges and is free of defects. Each sheet is 8" x 18" with a thickness of 2/83". When ordering please keep in mind that this veneer is made from actual wood and is therefore unique.

i need to veneer a 7' x 3' 6" table and want to confirm if I buy 4 packs will they be sequentially matched? Thanks
BEST ANSWER: Not in my experience. We ordered several at the same time and they were all different, some were a closer "match" than others, but definately not in sequence package to package. I don't know if you might be able to request the warehouse to try to pull as close as possible.....? Also 4 packages will give you roughly four 16" x 36" 4-way panels, which doesn't sound like it adds up to your requirements.

How do you Recommend to flatten a wavy veneer?
BEST ANSWER: Agreed, I have used the same "Veneer Tamer" and also a product called Super-Soft 2, from an on-line only source, "Veneer Supplies (dot) com", unfortunately Rockler carries neither. They do sell Glycerine, which is said to work in the same way, I have not tried it, so I cannot evaluate it. For me, the Super-Soft seemed to soften the veneer slightly better than Veneer Tamer, but it could have been simply differences in the veneer itself. One thing of which to be aware is the "flattened" vereer lost it's straight edges, requiring some work with a veneer saw to get the edges back to straight. The veneer will still be very prone to splitting when working to get a straight edge across the grain, so go slowly and carefully.

Beautiful veneer as pictured.
Beautiful veneer and would rate a 5, however this veneers is a little brittle and has a fair amount of rippling & bubbling which is typical of Crotch and Stump veneer but is not mentioned in description.
You will need to flatten this veneer before you work with it (cutting, seaming and using it in a vacuum press). It is much to brittle and rippled to work with in the state you receive it in.
Water alone will not work, it will have a small and short-lived effect on a veneer's flexibility. It will not condition the wood cells which is critical to getting the veneer flat without splitting. Additionally, if the water dries too fast, the veneer sheet can crack severely.
Use a quality veneer softener that temporarily plasticizes the wood cells, flattens and makes the veneer flexible.
Keep in mind that Mahogany Crotch and Maple Burl are tedious to flatten.
This veneer is probably not a good choice for beginners.

Beautiful veneer but the veneer is not flat but wavy like a potatoe chip. I tried to flatten with water mist and weights but did not have the expertise or proper equipment to flatten the veneer properly so it was pretty much a disaster for me.

Good quality veneer. The veneer tape worked great also. Recommend using gel type contact cement to apply the veneer to the substrate
