Gummed Veneer Tape

Item #
49858
Rating:
82% of 100

Keep your veneer edges tight while inside the press with Gummed Veneer Tape! Includes a 650 foot long roll of white 34 gram cellulose tape that measures 3/4" wide. Apply it to your joint, then as it dries, it shrinks. This shrinking action helps to hold the seam together while in the press. Perforated with a three hole pattern for ease of use, and it lets you see the seam under the tape which allows for adjusting/tightening of the seam before the tape dries.

Features:

  • Shinks as it dries, keeping the seam together while it's in the press
  • 3-hole perforation pattern is easy to use and lets you see your seam while you make adjustments
  • White 34 gram cellulose tape

Veneer tape
Essential for making tight joints while veneering.
Easy application and it can be sanded off easily once the veneer is glued to the substrate.

Great veneer tape
I've used several types of veneer tape and this stuff is the best. I was glad it was in sock at the Garland , Tx store as I needed it asap. I love Rockler and thrilled they have opened a location close to me.

Works great!
I am new to taping veneer, but this tape was easy to use and everything worked out great. Gentle sanding removed it with no issue and it seamlessly joined the veneer pieces. I am 100% happy!

A Great Tool
This tape is fantastic at pulling pieces together, it creates the tightest possible seam. It actually does leave residue, and doesn't come off easily when re-wetted; which is difficult to get off. I tried Denatured alcohol, it doesn't remove the residue. Sanding is the only way to get it off, but that is risky on 10 mil veneer. For this reason, I use it on the back of the veneer, not the face,

I really like this multi-hole veneer...
I really like this multi-hole veneer tape. Just moisten slightly with a damp rag and it will adhere with good strength and dry almost immediately. To remove, just dampen again. It left no residue.

Tape is just a bit to narrow. It could be a little wider.

Not only will it allow you to make adjustments during the drying process, it dissolves and makes the connection more concrete.

Is it safe to use gummed veneer tape on the back side of paper back veneer?
Donny R on Sep 5, 2015
BEST ANSWER: That's actually the only way I use it. It's too much hassle to get the glue and tape off if you use it on the veneer face. Just make sure you don't make the tape visible on the edge of the veneer.
Hi, i am looking for 3m adhesive (tape or whatever ) for raw Walnut Burlwood Bulinga veneer which i want to use on the wood panels and dashboard of my car????
. Thank you, Alan
Alan K on Jul 3, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The 3M tape that your speaking of or looking for is called “VHB”. It is a 3M tape product that is very high bond, that’s where the VHB name comes from. It will have a red film backing on it and comes in a few different widths. Hope this helps!

is this gum tape water activated?
William P on May 10, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Yes! Wipe the shiny side with a wet sponge and then press onto your veneers.
what is the best way to remove this after it dries ?
Tiredasz on Nov 19, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I found this info on a website: The paper tape is a water based, gummed tape that was put on during the manufacturing process. After your face is glued to the substrate, remove the tape. Use a damp sponge to dampen the tape. Give it some time for the dampness to soak into the tape. The glue will loosen and you can scrape and sand the tape off. Note: Be sure to get the glue residue out of the wood pores. Use a damp sponge for this. Also, sand the surface where the tape came off. The mistake that most people make is to use too fine of a grit for sanding. Bob Morgan
please note the gummed tape veneer should be glued to a substrate before you try to remove with damp sponge or cloth.
Has anyone used the veneer tape on teak? How well did it hold?
Leroy W on Jun 14, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Dear Leroy,

I’ve used veneer tape with Teak veneer and it held well enough to put the pieces in the vacuum press or if you were going to clamp the work.

I didn’t let the aligned pieces sit around for some time as Teak is very oily and I was thoughtful of any possible failure.

Wear a mask while working with Teak as many people have told me the natural oils are toxic when airborne as dust.

Good luck, the wood is quite beautiful and water resistant.
