Whether for the home shop or the production floor, Next Wave SHARK HD520 makes an exceptionally versatile tool that can meet all your machining needs. It can shape, drill, carve, dado and rabbet a huge variety of projects made from wood, soft metals, composites, or plastics. The Next Wave SHARK HD520 features a full 50'' of Y-axis travel and robust, industrial-grade components: a heavy-duty aluminum- and steel-reinforced gantry, an extruded aluminum router mount, interlocking aluminum table, linear rails and guides, and anti-backlash, wear-compensated lead screws on all axes. Except for the router (see compatible router list below), it ships standard with everything needed to get started: the latest version of Vectric VCarve design software, a color pendant controller, two hold-down clamps, a 3/8'' carbide V-bit, and Next Wave Automation’s exclusive, patented Virtual Zero Unlimited software. It's fully compatible with Next Wave Automation’s extensive line of accessories: laser, 4th axis, scanner, and more. Made in the USA and backed by a full one-year warranty and lifetime technical support.

  • Includes the latest edition of Vectrics VCarve design software ($349 retail value)
  • Vector Art 3D Sampler Pack ($99 retail value)
  • Steel encased gantry legs for increased rigidity
  • New cable management system and computer control panel

cnc shark hd5 extended
I love the machine! It is a lot of fun! I know I can make this machine profitable for my family. I wish, though, that there was more control with the hand pendant, that you could monitor the z with it. Also the feed rate override is slow to actualize. But the post processor is rock solid so just trust that you aren't going to router the floor when you hit go. Also I have found the software very limiting and hard to work with. I think it's capabilities will become more apparent in time. I am thinking about trying a different software someday as well. Overall the CNC Shark is totally cool! My kids are especially interested in learning about it. And they are still young so I hope to raise the next generation to know about CNC. Thank you.

Woodworking Experience:
Very impressive.
Unbelievably amazing for it’s size and cost! I have had the machine for (2) weeks, still setting up, tuning, testing and learning. The machine is so simple to use. Vcarve Pro is awesome and simple yet pretty darn powerful for what it is. I have not setup the 4th axis yet.

Woodworking Experience:
My best CNC so far
I hv owned several CNC's but NWA really took the game to a new level with this machine. The added strength in bed & gantry created a robust machine that delivers excellent results. Also hv to say that NWA customer service is by far excellent in all of my interactions with the team.

Woodworking Experience:
nice machine a few suggestions
Machine came with the bed installed backwards. Till a new one was arranged I made a work around , then the controller failed and had to wait on that. Wish you have better instructions and tutorials on assembly. Was making parts 10 days after received. Customer service is top notch. Can't give you 5 starts as there were too many issues for a new machine. Machine works wells and with the RF spindle so much better than the router. I suggest you get the spindle

What is best pc to run with this?
Randy V on Nov 5, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Any current PC Desktop or Laptop running Windows 10 would be a good choice. This machine does not require the PC to be located in the immediate vicinity of the CNC machine, as the toolpath (design) file is transferred tot he machine using a USB thumb drive.
Are there any differences between this unit and the non-extended bed version other than the length of the bed and $1,000?
GregJ on Aug 16, 2019
BEST ANSWER: The Extended Bed version of this machine increases the X and Y travel from 25" x 25" to 25" x 50". It also upgrades the Vectric V-Carve software version from Desktop to Pro.

is the water cooled spindle better than a router?
Bruce L on Mar 5, 2020
BEST ANSWER: I guess it depends on what you are looking. I know it is much quieter. It can run longer without overheating. I am not sure if it has a higher RPM than a regular router. If you purchase a water cooled spindle from a company outside of Next Wave you will need to purchase a collar as the spindle is smaller than a router and won't fit in the mount. The mount that was sent with our spindle would not fit on our Shark 5D extended bed.
How robust is the included software? Good enough or do you really need to upgrade? Can you upgrade at time of purchase for a cheaper price?
Frank F on Dec 2, 2019
BEST ANSWER: The HD5 Extended Bed will include VCarve Pro software, which meets the needs of the vast majority of users. You can upgrade to Aspire online at any time by paying the difference between the original software price and the upgrade price.

What’s been improved from the hd4 to the hd5? It’s my understanding that the gantry on the hd4 is weak and has movement during heavy jobs.
Christopher on Nov 4, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Improvements to the CNC Shark HD5 include new linear guides, which deliver greater accuracy in the X axis. New steel-wrapped gantry legs provide additional rigidity on the Y axis and the new extruded router/spindle mounting system anchors the cutting tool for even more precision.
Can the 4th axis be either on the x travel (25") or the y (50") travel? I'm looking at turning something 36" in length.
Pierre B on Oct 15, 2019
BEST ANSWER: can be mounted in either axis. will work in x or y

I’m new to the cnc world. Does this machine require a computer? If so what requirements are required for the computer?
Christopher on Nov 1, 2019
BEST ANSWER: You don't need a computer to run this machine, but you need a windows based machine to work with V-Carve to create your jobs. You put the job on the thumb drive and take it to the machine hand held controller and load it and cut your job.
