Tackle all of your filing needs with this great selection of full-size (8" and 10") files. Each sold separately. File handle (sold separately) holds most popular files. Contoured to fit hand for straight, lathe and draw filing.

  • #12492 - 8" Four-in-One hand Rasp and File is four tools in one. Each side has both a rasp for solid stock removal and a double cut file for smoothing. One side is flat for working flat or convex surfaces, while the other side is half round for working concave surfaces.
  • #12542 - 8" Round Wood Rasp Bastard Cut Used for the same purpose as regular wood rasps. Used in places for which their shapes make them particularly effective. Round shape. Bastard cut.
  • #12369 - 10" Mill Smooth Cut Used for sharpening mill or circular saws. Also for draw-filing and finishing metals. Rectangular shape. Single cut on sides and edges. Two square edges.
  • #12450 - 10" Pattern Maker Cabinet Rasp, 2nd Cut, #49 Half-round shape. Narrow pattern, cut edges. Used when smooth wood finish is required.

Absolutely worth the higher cost! The Nicholson #49 Cabinet Makers Rasp is an incredible tool. The points of the rasp are randomly cut, resulting in a clean finish along with fast material removal. There are no deep ridges associated with rasps with consistent patterns. The process is more expensive, but so worth it. I go from the #49 to coarse sandpaper with no problem.

For the musical drum builder or restorer, the 4-in-Hand Rasp & File can't be beat! It's great for creating or touching up bearing edges and snare beds if you are router-challenged, or just want to do some quick work. Only complaint is that there's no real way to make a handle for the thing, you just needs a pair of leather gardening gloves. But no drum aficionado should be without this tool when working on a drumset!

This is a fantastic rasp and the other reviewers are correct that the random pattern really does make a difference. My only complaint is that the tech document (from 2000) states that these are made in USA however mine says made in Brazil. sigh.

teeth don't go out to edge
I think the product is ok but, I think the teeth should go out to the edge of the file. Other than that, it's ok

The file is excellent as most Nicholson files but I hate the handles. The cheap red plastic is brittle and weak and splits open if you put any force on it.

4-in-1 hand rasp and file
The file is adequate, but not nearly as easy to use as another hand-made file that I own that has a random pattern for the tines. This file claims to be hand-made, but its machine-made pattern for its tines makes it no better than what one can purchase at the local hardware store. The file works, but I have to say I am a little disappointed.

Ahh -- this is the one tool I've attempted to return since its Brazilian manufacture produces an inferior cutting edge. Have been waiting for an RMA for better than 6 months (??).

I need a wood file rasp with a curved edge that is no more than 4.75 mil thick. Do you have this? The site does not give thickness.
