Is this the same material found on the bench cookies?
BEST ANSWER: No...it is more like the material found in rubber cabinet liners. But works great.

If I use this on my luthier bence will it stick to, or mar a guitar finish?
BEST ANSWER: Be careful, I don't know if yours (mat) is like mine but I noticed little black marks on the maple I was working with after sanding one side, can't chance that without risk of having to resand.

How do these compare to the router mat? I’m thinking if using mostly for routing pieces that are to small to be able to clamp. Think narrower than the base

Non-Slip Router Mat

BEST ANSWER: I use them for small pieces about 2 to 3" x 8 to 12", but anything smaller I still break out the mat, they are great for larger items like doors or door fronts for cabinets, I know they show that you can set a piece on it and route the edge, but I personally feel safer clamping it or having it set flat on my workbench. To me it's a great product if used properly, but I tend to think safety first. The last thing I want is to be putting the finishing edge on a work-piece and it moves in any direction. I use these mostly for sanding purposes. I hope this helps.
